Last Post of the Day – Toby Keith – Beer For My Horses

It’s been a while since we’ve had a “last post of the day” and it seems like a pretty good time for one tonight :)

I don’t know about the rest of y’all, but this has been one of my favorite songs since it came out.  Good vs. bad, lawmen and outlaws, and good, old fashioned justice – it’s got lots of the good stuff

Good people everywhere seem like they’re getting fed up with criminals getting slaps on their wrists.  They want something done and I’m pretty sure they’re about ready to do it themselves if stuff doesn’t change.  Toby captured that pretty well in this song.

While I’m not endorsing lynching anyone or going after vigilante justice, I can definitely understand why people would want to do just that.  I will, however, endorse good people carrying an effective means of defense against those who would do them harm.

From Toby Keith’s album Unleashed:

Well a man come on the 6 o’clock news
Said somebody’s been shot, somebody’s been abused
Somebody blew up a building
Somebody stole a car
Somebody got away
Somebody didn’t get too far yeah
They didn’t get too far

Grandpappy told my pappy, back in my day, son
A man had to answer for the wicked that he done
Take all the rope in Texas
Find a tall oak tree, round up all of them bad boys
Hang them high in the street for all the people to see that

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

We got too many gangsters doing dirty deeds
We’ve got too much corruption, too much crime in the streets
It’s time the long arm of the law put a few more in the ground
Send ‘em all to their maker and he’ll settle ‘em down
You can bet he’ll set ‘em down ’cause

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

Justice is the one thing you should always find
You got to saddle up your boys
You got to draw a hard line
When the gun smoke settles we’ll sing a victory tune
We’ll all meet back at the local saloon
We’ll raise up our glasses against evil forces
Singing whiskey for my men, beer for my horses

Keep your powder dry and take care of each other out there, everyone :)

  • Toby Keith Sucks

After I read this about toby keith I was completely shocked that he was so liberal as to pander to a socialist leader who does not give a piss about what any American thinks, much less us working class Americans, and has decided to shove obamacare down our throats. Anyone that supports this doesn’t give a nickles worth of care towards what the majority of Americans want.

Just hearing about this made me sick. I can’t even listen to Toby Keith songs anymore and will NEVER buy another of his cd’s!

    • Yeah, I have differences in politics with Toby Keith, but the same thing is true about Jimmy Buffett. I might not agree with their politics, but I do think they’ve got some things right – like their genuine support for our troops that’s been repeatedly demonstrated  I think Toby got one right with this one 8)

Geez, I like this song. And another favorite, just for fun, is Let’s Talk About Me!

As to comment above, yes, if you don’t like someone’s politics, you don’t go to their movies or buy their CDs. I don’t know his politics or that he is “liberal”.

    • Kath,

Toby is a big fan of Obama and I disagree with that. Still, like I said he’s got some things right and I won’t completely disassociate myself from him. I still think people can disagree over politics and agree about other things :)

You’re not the only one who likes that other song, either :P

Toby Keith was raised by a father who gave a piece of himself to his country, and who was a Democrat in the same mold as the Democrats in my family. SOME are as socialist as The Current Occupant, some moreso – and some are eventually shocked to find that that’s what the Democrats are today but they will be damned if they’ll vote Republican because Republicans are greedy rich folks (usually bankers).

I like Toby’s music ok – same with Buffett – but I won’t give ‘em my money. How many albums did you buy, Jeff, before you found out ol Jimmy’s a multi-millionaire conglomerate?

No surprise, really…they ARE ‘performers,’ after all.

        • This may come as a shock, but I knew about Buffett’s success before I bought the first CD  I figure it this way – he works for his pay and I like his work :)

I guess I should clarify that music really doesn’t interest me much, savage lil broad that I am. I appreciate some of it but enjoyment isn’t a term I’d use. Maybe it’s the tinitus, but most of the time most of it’s noisy and irritating.

I was asked awhile back if I have ANY “obsessions” and I had to say FOOD…but even that changes. Just wired wrong, I suppose.
