Leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq Captured on July 4 – Tells U.S. that Baghdadi is FictionLeader of Al Qaeda in Iraq Captured on July 4 Happy Independence day – again! How much more fitting could it have been to capture the leader of the group most responsible for killing our soldiers? OK, maybe it would have been better timing if we’d gotten him on the anniversary of the capture of Baghdad. Hey, I’m just glad we got him! While I don’t thik there was any planning with regards to the timing of the announcement, it’s awefully funny that this was announced right around the time Harry Reid was holding a cut and run surrender slumber party in the U.S. Senate. Even better than just having captured Khalid Abdul Fatah Daud Mahmoud Mashadani is the fact that we’ve got him talking. So what’s he saying? Well, some pretty interesting stuff if you ask me. According to Mashadani, the public face put forth by al Qaeda in Iraq, Omar al-Baghdadi, is a fictional character played by an actor because they need to put a local face on the foreign run organization. Stop and cogitate on this for a moment – al Qaeda needs a fictional character to rally support of the locals. If al Qaeda was such a great organization they wouldn’t need to take such measures, right? The fact is that the local Iraqis are getting the message. The L.A. Times story that this post links to even reports that Mashadani had turned against al Qaeda in Iraq due to its foreign nature: “At a news conference, Bergner said the information came from Khalid Abdul Fatah Daud Mahmoud Mashadani, who was captured July 4 in the northern city of Mosul. Bergner said Mashadani was the communications chief in the Islamic State of Iraq and served as a conduit between Al Qaeda leaders, including Osama bin Laden, and non-Iraqis running the Islamic State of Iraq. He was one of very few Iraqis holding a leadership role in the organization, a situation that led him to turn against the group, Bergner said.” Three cheers for our troops! |
