The Dry LakeFrom a hill top at Edwards. I was showing the daughter around one day last week. Certifiable. The absolute middle of nowhere! This is the lake bed that the shuttle uses when it has to divert from Florida due to weather. It is resurfaced by the winter rains. 6 comments to The Dry Lake |

Way cool, Glenn
I love being out in what’s officially the “middle of nowhere”
Have I mentioned recently that I hate cities? No? Well, I do. Thanks, I feel better now. 8-)
So you could actually be there and see the shuttle land??? WOW.
How cool would that be? That is so neat. Very impressive.
The base has special routes for the media for the events when they are going to happen. I get to see other things fly out here also.
I remember that view! The steel-girder structure (just right of center on the edge of the lake bed) is the hoist to put the Orbiter on the back of the 747 transporter. The buildings to the right of that are NASA hangars.
And straight ahead, at the north end of the lake is “North Base”. Cue creepy, spooky sounds.
Right on the spot.
