Reeboks For MANPADS – Surface to Air Missile Exchanged for Shoes

Cops ask for guns, get missile launcher — OrlandoSentinel.com

Missile launcher turned in for Reeboks

The shoulder-fired weapon showed about 6 p.m. when an Ocoee man drove to the Florida Citrus Bowl to trade the 4-foot-long launcher for size-3 Reebok sneakers for his daughter.

I’m not of the mind that “taking guns off the street” is going to make the streets all that much safer. I personally believe that if people want one, they’re going to get it – legally or illegally. Missile launchers are another thing entirely. This is good to have off the streets especially since neither the guy who brought it in nor the people who took it off his hands seem to have a clue about it.

“Sure,” you may say, “The guy who brought it in didn’t have a clue – he said so. What makes you think the cops had no idea?” The absense of the local military EOD crew or at least a bomb squad – that’s what. An ancient rocket motor, unknown condition of wiring and explosives, I could go on and on.

If you ask me, this should be a clue to get the Feds in the area to sniff around a bit. But that probably won’t happen. After all, it’s only one unexpended shoulder fired surface to air missile, right? It’s not like the government has expressed concern about these being used on airliners or anything…

  • Try to fire *that* from your shoulder and you’ll wind up exceedingly disappointed.

It’s an expended TOW (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire-guided) missile tube, and requires sights and a launcher to get squirted downrange — against a *tank*…

  • Bill,

Thanks for the comment and the correction. There’s a new post up in the blog with a correction :) .
