Canon has a new digital SLR coming out in November. I’m trying to figure out how to come up with the cash
. All I can say is that this thing ROCKS!!!
From the Canon website:
The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III is an engineering tour de force which, true to the EOS-1 legacy, redefines the state of the art in no uncertain terms. An entirely new 21.1-megapixel full-frame Canon CMOS sensor delivers astounding image quality and creates new photographic possibilities. Dual “DIGIC III” Image Processors work in tandem to speed up data handling and camera operation, while further refining imaging performance. Tough, high-durability body and shutter designs, combined with the unique EOS Integrated Cleaning System, set new standards for professional dependability. Cutting-edge features-such as a large 3.0-inch LCD monitor with Live View Function, and a fast, precise 45-point AF system-make the EOS-1Ds Mark III powerful and versatile. And, of course, the EOS-1Ds Mark III is part of the unparalleled EOS System, which, with more than 50 EF lenses, 15 interchangeable focusing screens, and extensive wireless, remote control and lighting accessories, is the most advanced and powerful digital photography system in the world.

Yes, I confess, I nearly ruined my laptop. My readers, friends, and family can attest to my affinity for photography
. I read about this on Gizmodo and my jaw nearly hit the floor. 21.1 MEGAPIXELS
?!?! Reading the specifications on the Canon website, there’s even more goodness. Five frames per second in burst mode
! ASA eqivalent range of 50 to 3200
! Record a sound file to go along with the picture file
!
Combine this camera body with a lens like the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM and I’d be set for all my airshow in-flight pics
. Add a few more lenses from the Canon EF lens lineup and I’d be set for quite a few years to come!

I was dreaming about hitting the airshow circuit all set for the best pictures I’d ever taken and posted on the ‘net when reality stopped me in my tracks. There’s one MAJOR obstacle preventing me from purchasing this incredible piece of photographic equipment – the $7,999 pricetag
!!! I won’t even begin to speculate on the drain on my finances the collection of lenses would set me back, but I’m willing to bet that the total cost of the body and lenses would surpass the MSRP of my 2002 Chevy Cavalier when it was new. The car took me five years to pay off and I just can’t see doing that for a camera.
On the other hand, I’d be willing to be a beta tester if Canon is looking for one
!
