Voyages on Two Wheels – 15 June 2013 – Outlaw Car Show in Helper, UT

So, it’s been a while since my last post.  Again.  Between work, my beloved 10 month old daughter, and all the rest of the stuff that takes up my time, blogging has had to fall back a bit.

Yesterday saw Cindy, Ember, and myself out at the Outlaw Car Show in Helper, UT.  That’s just a few miles up the road and I figured it would be as good this year as it was a few days after I moved up here last year :)  We weren’t disappointed :thumb:

One of the first things that caught my eye was this motorcycle & sidecar combination.  It turns out that it’s a Chinese copy of a BMW motorcycle that was made by Russia back in WWII.  You can get one for about $6,000 delivered and I must admit I’m tempted.  The reason I’m not scheming to find a way to get one is that they only make about 24 HP from 750cc and have a top speed of about 45 MPH.  But it’s still tempting for all the dirt back roads around here

For those who’d like more info, cj750.net has everything you need to know

The owner of that sidecar rig was also nice enough to let Ember sit on it to get a picture with her dad :)

15 June 2013 - Cool Triumph Bonneville

I know it’s old and British, but I can’t help thinking this would be a cool daily ride :)

15 June 2013 - Awesome Triumph chopper

15 June 2013 – Awesome Triumph chopper

It may not be my cup of tea, but I can tell a lot of time and effort went into the superb craftsmanship that made this bike a rolling work of art :)

15 June 2013 - Cool custom hot rod

15 June 2013 – Cool custom hot rod

Wouldn’t it be fun to uncap those lake pipes & blast across the Bonneville Salt Flats?

15 June 2013 – It’s not an 8.8, but it’s got a Screaming Chicken!

OK, I’ll admit it.  I want one.  I want one with the 8.8 Liter engine and the glass T-Tops.

I also want the oil company I’d need to afford the gas

This was just too cool to leave out of the collection

Yes, I would love to get a pink & white 1963 Sting Ray split window coupe for my daughter if she wanted it :thumb:

15 June 2013 – This shovel head Harley also belongs to a 17 year old girl!

The story behind these two motorcycles is pretty cool.  Both belong to a 17 year old girl! Sadly, her biological dad passed away, but he left them to her in his will.  She’s turned down $40,000 offers on the Indian :)

Yes, I want one of each

15 June 2013 - T Buckets are cool!

15 June 2013 – T Buckets are cool!

I’ve always liked T Buckets like this one :)  I told Cindy we should see about getting one for Ember’s first car and she gave me the same sort of look you’d expect if someone said I should have a nuclear reactor in the back yard

15 June 2013 - I took our party crasher up the hill and turned him loose ;-)

15 June 2013 – I took our party crasher up the hill and turned him loose ;-)

This little guy’s about the same size as Ziva and I could tell he wasn’t venomous.  Several people were still massively freaked out as he slithered by, so one of the other people picked him up and I carried him up the hill so he could continue his efforts to control the rodent population :)

15 June 2013 - That's got style!

15 June 2013 – That’s got style!

I can’t remember the year and all, but this car just has classic style :thumb:

15 June 2013 - I want a 1928 Ford pickup like this!

15 June 2013 – I want a 1928 Ford pickup like this!

I’ve heard these old Fords aren’t all that expensive…  I’ve thought it would be great fun to have one of these for quite a while.  I could use it as a daily commuter and it would be great for trips out on the dirt roads of the San Rafael Swell, too.  I figure it this way – They worked back then and local roads and dirt roads haven’t changed all that much since then so they should work these days :)  It would be adventurous for a change :thumb:

15 June 2013 - Nice workmanship!

A hot rod with a V-8 engine and a sliding ragtop? Sign me up :thumb:

15 June 2013 - I could live with that!

These were just two of the many pristine Camaros in attendance

15 June 2013 - PURPLE HAZE!!!!!

15 June 2013 – PURPLE HAZE!!!!!

They may be bringing back some of the names and colors from this era, but they just don’t make cars like this 440 ‘Cuda in its Purple Haze paint job

15 June 2013 - Rat rods are cool, too!

15 June 2013 – Rat rods are cool, too!

I could go for something like this, too.  It’s far from pristine, but that’s part of its appeal :)

Cindy & I have talked about getting some sort of  an RV, trailer, etc.  I think we could do a lot worse than something like this!  I may just have to go around and see if anyone has an old trailer they don’t want that I could restore :)

15 June 2013 - You don't see many like this these days

15 June 2013 – You don’t see many like this these days

You really don’t see too many of these on the road these days.  And that’s sad because they are seriously cool cars :)

15 June 2013 - Yeah, I could make do with this ;-)

15 June 2013 – Yeah, I could make do with this

Sure, it’s impractical and expensive to drive.  I don’t care!  I can only imagine the fun of putting Ember & one of her friends in that rumble seat at some point in the future

15 June 2013 - Gotta love an old Chevy ;-)

15 June 2013 – Gotta love an old Chevy ;-)

I don’t know how much of this car is original, but I could still live with it if that 427 emblem on the fender relates to what’s actually under the hood :thumb:

15 June 2013 - GTO JUDGE!!!!!

15 June 2013 – GTO JUDGE!!!!!

How many of you out there just started drooling?  That was my reaction when I saw this yesterday :)

15 June 2013 - Nice Harleys out in front, too!

15 June 2013 – Nice Harleys out in front, too!

I recognized these bikes out in front of the show – they belong to a locksmith just around the corner from my house!  I’ve sat on Road Kings, Softails, and Sportsters at dealers and I have to say that if I do ever get a Harley, it’s going to be a tough choice between the Softail and the Road King

15 June 2013 - I still love my V-Star 650 Classic :thumb:

15 June 2013 – I still love my V-Star 650 Classic :thumb:

So, after a day of looking at other people’s cool cars and motorcycles what did I have to come back to?  Yep, I took my V-Star to the car show :thumb:  It wasn’t entered or anything, but I think it has a pretty cool classic look to it and it’s so much easier to park that it’s ridiculous

Well, that’s all for now, but I’ll be back with more soon :)

Have a great day, everyone
