Stop the ACLU - Vandalism At The Vietnam Memorial
Michelle Malkin - Vandalism. Desecration. Cowardice. Coddling. Enough is enough.
A couple of really big lines have been crossed. Someone defaced “The Wall” - the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, DC by splashing a damaging substance on the paving stones and the Wall itself. Someone else took down an American flag at a retirement home, burned it, and left the smoldering remains on the gound. Neither person/group had enough confidence in their actions to stand up and take credit for their deed.
Make no mistake - this is a turning point. Until now it’s just been a rather disjointed shouting of opinions and showing of banners. Until now we were told that we could not “question the patriotism.” My take on these recent events is that the gloves and mask have come off and we are finally seeing how low they can go.
My response is this - I won’t change. I’ll call a spade a spade, an enemy an enemy, and a criminal coward a criminal coward. But I won’t stoop to their level.
Those who committed these acts need to be tried in as public a manner as possible - it’s in the Constitution that trials be public and these people are supposed to be patriots after all. If convicted (presumption of innocence and all), I can think of some really good sentences. 4,000 hours of community service each, restitution, attend basic training at each of the military service induction facilities without ever having the chance to join and which could not count toward the community service, and finally they should be required to maintain for two years that which they had defaced. Of course, they should also be offered the choice to stay away from the military and the monuments. In that case, I believe spending the next five summers in the care of Sheriff Joe Arpaio down in Maricopa County, AZ would be a decent substitute.
That would be an acceptable start.
