Picture(s) A Day – 24 June 2009I figured I’d better make up for yesterday. Here’s hoping the quantity and quality are up to your expectations I don’t have time to write out a separate description for each photo, so the captions will have to do I do have to explain about Huck. Huck’s pretty new to Las Vegas and found me on the internet a few days ago. He asked my opinion on a couple of different rifles and I said, “Why not try them out for yourself?” Yeah, we had fun As many people do, Huck wanted his picture taken with the AK-47. Who am I to say no? Make sure to click on the pictures to download the full size version and then click on that to see it really big Without further ado, on to the pictures So there’s another day in the books on this blog of mine. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I think I’d have to say that the pictures of Huck with the AK-47 came out pretty darn good. I also have to say that I’m really and truly pleased with the panorama. I meant for it to put the viewer out in the southern Nevada desert at sunset if only for a brief moment. I get that feeling, but then again I was actually there. Does it work for you? Have an even better day tomorrow 7 comments to Picture(s) A Day – 24 June 2009 |

I like the first one after the car, that’s one nice. (Are you sure you didn’t just throw a cup of water at your car and then take a picture???)
And yes, Huck looks a little dangerous, don’t know about him!! (I’m sure he’s very nice.)
Poor sad, little tree all by himself! But he has a fabulous view!
Thank you for all the pictures today!
Very funny, Kath
Huck’s a great guy. I had a blast going out shooting with him
Yeah, that tree has a pretty good view
And you’re very welcome
Nice desert! I am kind of fond of The Mojave between Needles and Barstow. With all those poetic places like Amboy, Cadiz, Bagdad(just a station sign on the Old Santa Fe RR), Goffs, Essex, Ash Hill, Ludlow and Siberia. I dumped a lot of ballast on that line.
Glenn,
Thanks for the complement! I haven’t been out on that particular stretch of desert, but I’ve seen pictures
Good stuff
Shortly after Thanksgiving of 2007, I was at Amboy. My BNSF buddy Mark Soto and I were at my ballast train, hoping to get it unloaded. It was raining at our elevation, but half-way up the surrounding mountains was snow. And there was even a light dusting on the top of the Amboy Crater. Rumour has it that someone has purchased Roy’s Motel/Campground/Cafe/Gas Station and is fixing to open it back up. If it happens, it will be the only services on Old 66 along the BNSF Needles Subdivision with services between Essex Road and Ludlow. The cool part is every now and then, there are Historic Route 66 markers painted on the surface of the road. I believe that I-40 is the southern boundary of The Joshua Tree National Monument.
Glenn,
I didn’t understand what you were talking about at first, but a bit of work on Google and I have to say this – DEAR GOD, MAN! Talk about weather and harsh conditions
Definitely a neat area
I’ve seen those Route 66 signs up around Valentine and Peach Springs north of Kingman
I haven’t been out to Joshua Tree National Monument, but believe me I’ve seen a whole bunch of ‘em out here
Most of those places are just station signs on the railroad now. There is a very high priced truck stop and store at the Essex Road exit on I-40. A cold roast beef sandwich on a hoagie roll and a 20 ounce root beer wiped out a ten dollar bill one day. I was waiting for a crew for my ballast train at Danby.
And for the semi-historic hippie note, the Bagdad Cafe is in Newberry Springs. Bagdad is a station sign. The stretch between Needles and Ludlow is one of the more empty places I have ever been.
