Last Post of the DayI just have a couple of things I have to get off my chest – gotta clear my mind before I finally get some sleep. I went on down to a gun shop today to pick up some ammo for the AK-47 and maybe a couple of magazines. More mags are better for so many reasons I did also pick up some more cheap hollow point ammo, too. You can’t have enough ammo if you don’t have to carry it around What I need to get off my chest is another lousy experience with a gun shop salesman clerk employee. Yes, I was looking at pistols to see just what’s out there and to make sure I’m making the best choice with the PF-9. The Glock 26 (sub-compact 9mm) was just too wide, but it fit my hand nicely. Dry firing revealed a great trigger. Still, not quite what I’m looking for. The Walther PPS is almost as thin as the PF-9, but it’s just a bit too heavy and a bit bigger in the other dimensions. The trigger was nice and I could easily see carrying it – it’s very nice. The deal breaker on the Walther was the $700+ price tag Hey, there’s high prices and whatnot anywhere. That wasn’t the problem. The problem was when I asked about +P ammo and got another blast of abrasive ignorance from the salesmen clerks employees about the PF-9. Really, you know the gun better than the manufacturer When I mentioned the price differential ($280 for the PF-9 vs. $700+ for the PPS), I did not appreciate the somewhat snide remark about “betting my life on the cheaper gun.” I’ll spare my readers a repeat of that rant from a previous post. I also didn’t appreciate it when I mused that maybe someone could only commit $50 to $75 per month to such a purchase and was greeted with the response, “Just save up a few more months.” I actually just about let the guy have it (verbally) when that came out of his mouth. Why? I already told this guy that I’m looking for a low price, light weight, small handgun for concealed carry and soon. I’m looking to get some self-defense and that’s a time-sensitive matter. I don’t know of very many guys or gals who think, “Times are dangerous and I need something to protect myself. I think I’ll wait a while to take care of that.” Think of it like a car. Yes, a Mercedes or Volvo would be an excellent car in terms of safety. Most people don’t buy them. Lots of people buy Kias, Chevys, Fords, and Mitsubishis. They’re betting their life on that car. They’d probably love a Mercedes or Volvo. They just can’t afford one, nor can they afford to wait and save up for it. Is the Walther a better gun? Maybe. Probably not all that much if the truth were told. Still, I know I’m not buying the absolute best that money can buy. I’ve done the calculations – what is life but calculated risk? – and made my choice. If I changed my mind, it wouldn’t be because of anything like what that salesman clerk employee said. Yeah, I grabbed the magazines and the ammo because of the price, but I will not give that store my business when the time comes to make a $300+ purchase. 3 comments to Last Post of the Day |

Realizing that you don’t have to be much of a salesman to sell ammo, bec. people seem to be buying as much as they can, but to sell any gun, I don’t care the price, you would think the sales person would be interested in doing that, talking it up a bit, chat with you, see how much you know and maybe even see if they could show you just the next one in your price range, or are you really just wanting this gun, so let’s talk about it.
BUT — maybe it’s a matter of they’re selling so many, they don’t care. “Buy whatever. We got plenty of customers”, you know, that attitude.
At least you know they’re not working on commission, bec. they can’t be making much!!
Kath,
You’re probably right. They don’t really have much in the $300 price range, but above that they’re OK. Like I said, the Glock is good, but too wide.
I think I’m going to write a letter to the owner/manager and actually send the thing through the mail.
I’m definitely going to write Kel-Tec to inform them about what their dealers are saying about their products
