Choosing Private Health Insurance – Illegal in the Near Future?
By Parrothead Jeff, on 17 July 2009
From Investor’s Business Daily:
Congress: It didn’t take long to run into an “uh-oh” moment when reading the House’s “health care for all Americans” bill. Right there on Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal.
When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.
It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of “Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage,” the “Limitation On New Enrollment” section of the bill clearly states:
“Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day” of the year the legislation becomes law.
Let’s let that sink in a bit. The government wants to make your choice to buy private health insurance ILLEGAL.
This is wrong on so many different fronts that it’s mind boggling.
I’ll write more on this when I have time.

The whole health care issue is really scaring me, because this really, truly effects every person.
And basically, it’s going to end up so f-ed up that we’re all going to be poor just trying to get regular medicine, let alone if you get cancer.
Headline today was Biden saying we need to spend or we’ll go bankrupt — what the . . . that man should NOT be allowed to talk — about anything!!
You’ve done it again – hit the nail right on the head.
Gotta love Vice President Gaff-O-Matic
