Last Post of the Day – One of My Dreams…

Oh, how I'd love to be there...

Oh, how I'd love to be there...

Jack Sparrow: I love this song. Really bad eggs. Ooh.
Jack Sparrow: When I get the Pearl back, I’m gonna teach it to the whole crew, and we’ll sing it all the time.
Elizabeth: And you’ll be positively the most fearsome pirates in the Spanish Main.
Jack Sparrow: Not just the Spanish Main, luv. The entire ocean. The entire wo’ld. Wherever we want to go, we’ll go. That’s what a ship is, you know. It’s not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that’s what a ship needs but what a ship is… what the Black Pearl really is… is freedom.

I’ve had a taste of the liveaboard and “boat scum” lifestyle and culture.  And somehow that became a part of me.  It’s something I really miss.  Staying over so many nights on Adrienne’s sailboat with the gentle bobbing, the sound of the surf in the distance, and the smell of the cool salt air – it really does get into your blood.

Yes, it is true that a boat is merely a hole in the water into which money is thrown.  Somehow, I really can’t bring myself to actually care about that.  I just keep thinking about how $40,000 or so would buy one big ticket to freedom…

Even if you don’t take the boat out very often, there’s still the tangible possibility of literally sailing off into the sunset at the drop of a hat.  OK, maybe not quite – gotta have supplies and all – but the possibility is real nonetheless.

I don’t want all that much.  No 350 foot megayacht.  No, I just want something between 40 and 50 feet that can be sailed solo to whereever I choose to point the bow.

I figure a good way to cap this post off would be with a Jimmy Buffett concert :D The song is “Son of a Son of a Sailor” and not only is it a staple at the concerts, but it’s been one of my true favorites for years now :)

Fair seas and following winds everyone 8)
