Here’s A Big Single Finger Salute to Ebay and PayPal!!!

I don’t know if y’all heard about PayPal suspending Soldiers’ Angels fundraising account, but they did it.  And do you know why?  Because they were collecting donations towards a gun raffle at the Gun Blogger Rondezvous which went to Soldiers’ Angels Valour IT computer purchase program.

Let me make this clear.  The Gun Blogger Rondezvous is raffling off a gun with the proceeds going to a charity organization (Soldiers’ Angels) that buys voice operated laptops for wounded veterans.  Soldiers’ Angels were collecting some of the money via PayPal.  Guns are verboten when it comes to Ebay and PayPal, but they’re good friends with Soldiers’ Angels.  You’d think they might try to contact them, maybe turn off the offending donation link, or something like that, right?

Nope, they shut down the whole Soldiers’ Angels account

From the Castle Argghhh! we read:

Online donations through PayPal are a huge part of our fundraising. They shut down our entire account-not just the raffle button—for twelve hours right in the middle of an email fundraising push. Looking at the Terms of Use, we couldn’t understand where we’d gone wrong, but we had to immediately remove the raffle so we could get back online ASAP. This just breaks our hearts because we were so excited about the tremendous fundraising impact the Gun Blogger Rendezvous raffle was already having.

So what did I do about it?  Simple – I closed my accounts at PayPal and Ebay.  PayPal is owned by Ebay after all.  I even told them exactly why in their little “what did we do wrong” type of box at the end.
