Picture(s) A Day – 9 September 2009As I said before, I’m getting a bit more prepared than I have been in the past. Part of that preparation is learning the idiosyncrasies of your gear. I think I’m pretty well versed with the peculiarities of my firearms, but I’m not nearly as familiar with some of my other gear. So yeah, I thought it would be a good idea to get familiar with my new stove and lantern. I’ve used a stove like this before, but it’s been a while. I wanted to see if it would light readily with just a spark (remember that fire starting tool?). It lit even with only using a small Bic lighter that ran out of butane The lantern is a bit more of an issue. I screwed up the first mantle by allowing the igniter electrode to remain in the mantle when I initially burned it. Then I bought the wrong kind of replacement mantles. With good mantles, I’ve found that there’s a bit of an issue with getting it lit when it’s cold. I may just exchange it. On the other hand, it does give off quite a bit of light when it’s working While I was out taking pictures of my gear testing session, Las Vegas Metro put on a bit of an impromptu display of their capabilities. Actually, I’m pretty sure this was no training flight, but the crew sure did know how to operate that system Another post in the archives – have a good day |
