Road Trip in the HHRSaturday was a day of traveling for Cindy, her mom, her niece, and yours truly. Vegas may be a great place, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes you just want to get away. We loaded up into the HHR for a trip up north in search of fun and all and we surely found it – from swimming to alien hunting at the Little A’Le’Inn we cruised Nevada in style and comfort. Make sure to hit the jump for more pictures
We left town around 11:00 AM after a good breakfast and headed north on the I-15 and then Highway 93. We stopped along the way to change drivers (Cindy doesn’t get carsick if she’s driving most of the time) and stretch our legs before continuing up to the town of Alamo and the Windmill Ridge Bakery.
We loaded up on baked goods like bread, cookies, and a cinnamon roll before heading up the road just a short distance to Ash Springs where we went swimming in the natural warm/hot spring pools.
Several things struck me as strange about Ash Springs. First, here I was in comfortably warm, fresh water with all kinds of pond plants and nice trees, but looking out just a short distance I could still see desert. Second, I’ve never been tickled quite like I was in the water when hordes of guppies tried to eat me alive
The springs were smaller than I expected – about the size of a couple of cheap above ground pools and only a couple of feet deep – but still very enjoyable.
After soaking up the water and the sun in the desert, we headed north and west a ways for me to get a couple of pictures of the HHR with the “Black Mailbox” and a couple of other landmarks
We made just one more stop after the Little A’Le’Inn. We were going to go to a restaraunt in Glendale, NV, but it was no longer there – just an empty lot. We drove on over to Overton where I purchased my 9mm pistol and found a nice place for dinner and then headed home. Total time for our little road trip was 11 hours and 40 minutes from the time we left for breakfast until we returned and covered just over 350 miles. With four people, a cooler, and some other stuff in the back (loaded down in other words) and the air conditioning running, we still managed 31 miles per gallon average for the trip which works out to just about 11 gallons or about $47 in gas. This Friday night I’ll be on my way down to Prescott, AZ for fun with the family and adding more miles to the HHR Have fun, everyone |
