Happy Birthday, United States Marine Corps! National Archives image - Tun Tavern in Philadelphia, PA - Birthplace of the United States Marine Corps Having known a few Marines in my time, I’d have to say that it’s quite fitting that the United States Marine Corps was born in a tavern! Yes, it was 234 years ago that Uncle Sam’s Misguided Children came into being by Congressional Resolution. We even have an image as seen in a .pdf file of the original letter on the official Historical website of the USMC.
