Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville
In case you hadn’t figured it out by my screen name, I’m a devout follower of that great storyteller and musician from the deep south, Jimmy Buffett. I think I’ve got just about everything he’s ever recorded, with the exception of the “Margaritaville Cafe” series of CDs. I’ve read all of his books for adults and I think I’ll have to read the childrens’ books too.
I just read his new book, “A Salty Piece of Land,” which is a continuation of one of the short stories in “Tales From Margaritaville.” Tully Mars continues his adventures in the Caribbean and Central America while trying to evade a couple of bounty hunters sent to return him to Heartache, Wyoming for trial after he threw a massage table through his new employer’s picture window. I don’t normally endorse such behavior, but when that woman decided to turn the ranch into a poodle breeding ranch, she really shouldn’t have expected anything else from an old cowboy like Tully when she told him to get rid of his trailor. I highly recommend these two books, along with Jimmy’s other adult works, “A Pirate Looks at 50″ and “Where is Joe Merchant?”
In some ways I’m glad that there’s a Margaritaville just a few miles from my apartment, but in some ways I’m not. I love the atmosphere, but they’re not exactly shy about asking for your money, if you know what I mean. It also reminds me of my last job, which also happens to be my favorite job so far.
I sure miss Captain’s Cove!!!
