Cal City, Antelope Valley, Tehachipi Mountains and such![]() The house ![]() Tehachipi Mountains ![]() Antelope Valley looking south towards Edwards and Cal City. ![]() Joshua Tree Here are a few from today. After I dropped the Missus off in Palmdale, I stopped by the house to get my camera. The house was already on the card. The Tehachipi shot was from north of town. I took a short trip up to Ridgecrest and the Naval Air Weapons Center. The other two were taken on the way back near the Red Rock Canyon State Park. The Joshua Tree is just for you Kath! They only grow in the deserts of California. The Missus looked that one up. This is the Mojave Desert/Antelope Valley. The Antelope have been gone for a long, long time. Someone told me it was because of the railroad. It is the local wisdom that the antelope would not cross the tracks. They do in the part of Montana I grew up in. I am still looking for a scientific reason. The UP runs north from Lancaster/Palmdale to Mojave and the BNSF runs east-west between Mojave and Barstow. Historically it would be the old SP and the old Santa Fe, more specifically the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe. Although this part of the Santa Fe started as the Arizona and Pacific RR. Just so everyone is aware, I am using this blog for pictures. For some strange reason, the Old Retired Petty Officer one will not upload photos. One of these days I will figure it out. But I like posting them here anyway! Late Veterans Day entry/note. Go to Karla’s blog, Pixie Place and read the Veterans Day entry about Dad. I had a couple other things to add on Old Retired Petty Officer. 4 comments to Cal City, Antelope Valley, Tehachipi Mountains and such |

Nice pictures, Glenn. Now I understand about the yard — yeah, no grass cutting there!
Those poor Joshua trees, they are just so determined to grow — more power to them. I think they look pretty cool.
Great pics, Glenn! Nice house you’ve got there, too
For some reason, those pics look a lot like the scenery around here
The place is starting to grow on us:) The grocery store for us is the commissary at the base. Otherwise it is a Stater Brothers in Mojave. Walmart trips are planned as the easiest one to get to is in Palmdale off the 14 Freeway at 10th St. W. It is about an hour to there.
Down near Twentynine Stumps(Palms) and Palm Springs is the Joshua Tree National Monument or Park. I don’t remember which at present. Outside of Cal City is the Desert Tortoise Preserve. I will get there on a weekend to get some pictures after the Missus gets here with the rest of our stuff. She has never seen one.
Looking forward to the pics, Glenn
I’ve gotten spoiled by Vegas and the convenience of living in a 24/7 town. It’s all so close, too.
Have fun!
