Fungus/Fungi or Moldy/Moldi — You Tell Me!!

Yesterday was leaf-raking day. Yeah, big, freaking lot of fun.

Anyway, since as you know, my house backs up to woods, so as I’m raking the leaves back to from whence they came — I see this.

The tree is dead, don’t know if from this creeping crud or just died on its own. But I’ve never seen this before.

Figured one of you might know what is or if you’ve ever seen it.

  • It appears to be a type of jelly fungus… http://www.mushroomexpert.com/tremella_mesenterica.html

I believe it’s edible, but odds are you wouldn’t like the taste… so avoid putting it in salads!

  • It figures Kerry would come up with the answer

Kerry, thank you!! I was scared to even be near it. Believe me, I’m not touching it. It can stay right on the tree. Pretty color, tho.

I have to remember the hippie freaks that used to hit Whidbey Island and Fidalgo Island after a good rain. They could be seen in the meadows and pastures, ass up and face down looking for those magic Pacific Northwest Mushrooms. We are talking about people who came from NE 45th St in Seattle and pretty much all of Bellingham for the hallucinogenic fungus. While A-6 Intruders and EA-6B Prowlers were overhead. Talk about a dichotomy?!?!?!!?!?!? Only in the Pacific Northwest! And yes, I still love the place. It is home to my kids, to this day. My sons are diehard Seahawks and Mariners Fans.
Oops, Kath says I am rambling a bit too much. Love ya girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
