Picture(s) A Day – 7 December 2009Today was Pearl Harbor Day. While the rest of this post is unrelated, I wanted to start off with a request for a moment of silence, reflection, and prayer for those who gave their lives for their country on that Sunday morning in 1941. My day today started off by waking up to a rather cold morning. No, it’s not as bad as Dad’s mornings back when he was growing up, but it still wasn’t the warmest I’ve ever been. I knew there’d be a big time workload today due to the weather and I’ll admit that I wasn’t really able to sleep all that well last night because of what I knew I’d have to deal with today. It’s my understanding that quite a few people in the repair department called out sick today and it wasn’t just the other centers. I had half a mind to do so myself, but I have this nasty, continually problematic thing called a conscience. I can’t just leave my coworkers to face this and add my burden to theirs if I’m not sick. It’s just that simple. This is what I saw upon my arrival at work this morning. That’s snow up on the mountain. It was cold and a bit breezy, but there wasn’t any precipitation at work… yet. Coming back from lunch, it was a bit chilly out and the first sprinkles had begun to fall. By the time I left work at 1830 hours (after two hours of mandatory overtime), the rain was falling steadily. Some said it was raining hard, but I really must disagree. It was a light to medium rain and a fairly soaking rain as well. There was a fair amount of water in the gutters and drainage ways in the parking lots, but nothing too bad. The roads were pretty darn slick and I changed to second gear starts to keep the front wheels from slipping. One thing that I’ve noticed around work is that most of my cohorts and colleagues were complaining rather vocally about the temperature and moisture. You’d think they might think back on how much they wished for cooler weather in the middle of summer and count their blessings with the cold and wet conditions. Well, maybe I’m just a bit different as strange as that concept might be It’s time for me to get some rest. I’m looking at the same thing tomorrow as I dealt with today, possibly a bit worse when it comes to work. Add in the possibility of four hours of mandatory overtime and I welcome the extra cash, but I’m not looking forward to going through it. I’d liken it to removing a bandage where it’s stuck to a wound – you want it off, but it’s a pain to get there. Take care and stay safe, warm, and dry everyone |
