Been a busy week and such

I have been up to you know where in alligators and falcons this week. Being the WG-10 and newest Crew Chief, I spend a LOT of time on the line launching and recovering airplanes. And yesterday was a wash for one of them. The Air Force washes it’s airplanes every 180 days. In Navy Air, [...]

A Rather Nice Day!

It was a splendid day here in the Mojave Desert. Highs in the mid to upper sixties, a very light breeze and sunshine galore! The BBQ was fired up later for a couple of rather nice Filets Mignon. Oh Yes! With lobster tails, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did the install of the lights today. The Gnome was put out [...]

Guaranteed Overtime – Mudslides in SoCal

I’ve gotta be honest here.  I’m happy to have the money, but I’m unbelievably glad I’ve got a three day weekend.
From Fox News:

Hundreds Ordered to Evacuate in California Mudslides
AP
Fire officials say at least 41 homes have been damaged and 500 more ordered evacuated after a pounding winter storm triggered mudslides in wildfire burn areas north [...]

Dad’s Old Job – Dangerous Drives – Highway Patrol

It’s safe to say the weather absolutely sucks today.  It’s 48° and it’s been raining all day long.  Plans had included a trip to the shooting park, but I had laundry to do and their website says they’re closed during inclement weather.  Sure, I could go to an indoor range, but I’d rather not blow [...]

Plane Pr0n on a Winter’s Day

I had to go to Tehachapi for a doctor’s appointment today. On the way home I had to stop in Mojave. I take the Z612 along with me most of the time, now a days. With the hardware parked at Mojave Airport, it is good thing to do. One of those Ex Air Canada birds [...]

Morning in The Antelope Valley

My winter mornings are like this. We have haze due to the rainwater that is in the low areas along the roads and in Rogers Dry? Lake. But there is still some snow on the Tehachapi Mountains. These were taken at about 0700 on 30 January.
Enjoy!
And for Kath, it was about 34 degrees outside!

They Say It Never Rains in Southern California…

It’s that bad.  I’ve never seen it this bad since I started working in telecommunications repair.  We have about five times the normal work load.  And I think it might just get worse.
To wit:
Now consider that most of our customers are in California and remember that telecommunications equipment does not like water.
Here’s hoping California doesn’t [...]

Merry Christmas from the Antelope Valley

It isn’t a shot of Christmas lights in Cal City or anywhere else in the Antelope Valley. I have, as it says, sentimental reasons. This fine ship was the last one I made a deployment on……………a long time ago, now.
But from Glenn and Sharon out here in the Desert, MERRY CHRISTMAS to all!
Especially to Kath, [...]

Near Riots as College Students Face Reality

I found this over on David Codrea’s War on Guns and while I’d like to say that I’m appalled at the behaviour of these kids and that I’m shocked at the thought of raising tuition that much, I’d be lying   The (some would say sad) fact of the matter is that I’m quietly [...]

The Battle of Palmdale – 1956

During the days of the Cold War, there was an air battle over the skies of Southern California which very few people remember or have even heard of.  It was the Battle of Palmdale.
Back in 1956, the Navy was using remotely controlled F6F Hellcats as targets (yes, it still sickens me even though I know [...]
