Yeah, it’s what I plan to do again this weekend, too

Well, I finally got my butt out of the apartment today and went fishing :thumb: ! Not that I actually caught anything, mind you, but I attempted it with several different methods Mostly I just kicked back in my chair, let the bait soak, chatted with the locals, watched the planes on final approach to McCarran and watched the R/C boats

What’s that? You didn’t know you could go fishing next to McCarran’s final approach? Well, here’s the deal. Sunset Park is located on the corner of Sunset and Eastern – just across the intersection diagonally form McCarran. Fishing is just one of the activities at this park, but it’s kinda different and cool if you ask me The location I chose today was N 36.06477 W 115.11388 according to my GPS receiver – check out the map below:

Of course, this is nearly ideal for an aviation nut like myself There’s only one other lake/pond that I’d really like to be able to fish, but it’s on a military installation about 90 miles northwest of here and I don’t think they’ll let me just go up there and on base to fish

Yes, I did take some pictures and I just know that y’all want to see what was going on there today I’ll try to remember my tripod next time so I can be in the picture

So yeah, it was a good, relaxing day at the pond

I was originally supposed to drive down to Fontana for a friend’s Christmas party, but alas, the weather just ain’t what I want to see when making my way through the Cajon Pass. It’s supposed to be windy, snowy, and cold. Aside from never having driven in snow, my car and its tires just aren’t suited to the snow. I tend to trust in my abilities to navigate just about any road in just about any condition (really hate fog though ), but I have significantly less faith and confidence in my fellow motorists’ abilities .

So now I’m not going to Fontana and the weather here really sucks – what to do ?

There’s lots of housework to be done, but I’m not really in the mood. I’ll probably do some anyway.

I’ve been meaning to buy some thermal underwear… Maybe a trip to Wal Mart . You see, it’s been freaking COLD lately, especially right after warm summer temperatures and I really want to be comfy outside which brings us to my next plan.

Fishing ! Yes, I’ve got a new tackle box, lots of lures, baits, hooks, sinkers and such, three rod/reel combos including a brand new catfish combo and a combo I put together myself – a light weight rod (the salesman called it a “banana rod”) and a light reel, a case to carry the rods & reels all together, and a brand new chair with a sun shade.

Well, it’s off to Wal Mart for some warm clothing, then over to the conservatory at the Bellagio to look at the cool stuff there and then back home before going out fishing .

Bass Pro Shops’ Outdoor World has a sizable chunk of my hard earned $$$, but at least I’m geared up for whatever I might want to catch. Of course, I will have to learn to cast with a baitcasting reel, but even that should be a fun learning experience, right ?

Current inventory consists of one tackle box (which may be replaced – I bought it more for rocketry), numerous baits, lures, etc. and three rod/reel combos. One is super light (spinning), one medium (also spinning), and one is fairly heavy duty (baitcasting). I figure the ultra light gear will be good for lots of stuff as will the medium combo. I bought the heavier duty gear because I have a feeling I might want to go after striped bass in Lake Mead or catfish other places.

I still haven’t gotten a chance to use two of the three rods, but that should change soon – I’m planning on keeping at least the two lighter rigs and tackle box in my car and going by a pond on my way home .
