Launch the alert 5 fighter!!!

Launch the alert 5 fighter!!!

“Launch the alert 5 fighter! Launch the alert five fighter! 401 using catapult 2! Initial vector overhead – 401!”

Seldom seen by anyone outside the Navy, an “Alert 5″ launch is truly an event to behold. The “Alert 5″ fighters are the carrier’s quick reaction force. They stand manned and ready on the deck, ready to launch in under five minutes. Continue reading Launch the alert 5 fighter!!!

Michael Yon : Online Magazine / Blog Archive / Superman

“As the bomb detonated beneath it, the General Lee arced like a dolphin from the sea of Hell. LT Brad Krauss can be seen flying out like Superman, if you look closely and imagine real hard. PFC Devon Hoch can clearly be seen standing in the back hatch.”

In case you haven’t heard of him, Michael Yon is an independent journalist and blogger who relies on the direct support of his readers for funding. Michael is in Iraq for up to a year at a time, embedding with different units and bringing the story to us the readers without any sort of corporate influence.

In his latest post, “Superman,” Michael recounts events from a trip on the highways of Iraq. He was embedded with a Stryker unit whose job it was to clear the roadways and to provide quick reaction cover for the supply guys in case of attack. Why I love the First Amendment

Here’s yet another reason I’m glad I live in the USA. I know I will never be thrown in jail for singing a song that criticizes a college entrance exam!!!

There’s times I complain about the way this country’s going and then there’s times I’m glad we’re doing as well as we are. If this is what happens to a rock group in Turkey, just imagine what would happen to someone like Rush Limbaugh!

V8 Blender or: How to Waste Away Again in Margaritaville, in Style!

V8 Blender
OK, last entry (at least for tonight) in the other than intended for this use engine thread.

Being an avid Parrothead, I would love to have this at the parking lot party for a Buffett concert! Just fire up that big V8 and you’re good to go!

Of course, I might just decide to save money by making a dolly to support the drive wheels on my car, but that’s just me and my lack of money talking.

Hmmm… Let’s think about this a bit further… If we take this idea and combine it with the theme from the motorcycles in the earlier post, we can only imagine a turbine or radial engine powered blender!

Just don’t try to use this after consuming the end result – alcohol use and machinery don’t mix well, after all!!!

High-Octane Barbie: BBQ Grill Made of a V8 Engine Block – Gizmodo

Yep, another one of those things I’d love to have if I had the time, money, space to stor it and place to use it. The owners say that they got rave reviews at the local car show and I can see why!

Sadly, it appears that this will never make it to market.

Tailhook Daily Briefing: CAG says it’s workable

Tailhook Daily Briefing: CAG says it’s workable

I hate driving in fog and crummy weather and I can only imagine what this was like!

Night CQ is night time carrier qualification operations. Six catapult launches and six landings are required to be qualified to land on a carrier at night. What follows is at times humorous, at times shocking, but a great read.

When Aviation Meets Motorcycles

The stuff you find when you’re out surfing the web can be pretty amazing at times. Who knew that there were people who would decide to combine aviation engines and motorcycles? I knew about the turbine motorcycle, but I didn’t know that a few people have found ways to use a radial engine! Continue reading When Aviation Meets Motorcycles

Tailhook Daily Briefing: How Committed are You to Your Job?

Tailhook Daily Briefing: How Committed are You to Your Job?

Not as committed as the guy they write about!

Cpl. Gareth Hawkins was blown up by a massive IED which shattered his right leg and wounded two others. The medical team had him all set for medevac, but Cpl. Hawkins had other ideas first. Cpl. Hawkins DEMANDED that he be taken to the local command post so that he could reenlist with his battalion before he was medevaced out.

Now that’s commitment. Semper Fi!
