After much consideration, I have decided to decommission the forum. While the idea sounded great and I love the forum on F-16.net, it didn’t work out. There were entirely too many spam posts and registrations. I simply do not have the time right now to add forum administration to the list of the rest of the stuff that I have to do. While the forum has been decommissioned, you might say it’s in mothballs. It’s still there, just disabled and I can bring it back if I decide to with minimal effort. Not having to deal with the constant need to approve new user accounts (of which only one had ever posted a substantive post or reply) will free up my time for other activities – like running this blog, working, eating, and maybe even (gasp!) sleeping I thank everyone who may have tried to register for legitimate reasons for your support and I apologize to anyone who didn’t get to post legitimate posts. Neptunus Lex – Oops CDR Salamander – Stupid is as stupid does Fox News – Navy to Modify Barracks Complex That Resembles a Swastika From Air LA Times – Navy to mask Coronado’s swastika-shaped barracks
I drove past the Navy’s amphibious warfare base every day for several years and never saw this. I never knew it existed. It turns out that very few people knew about it and fewer thought it was worth the money to change the appearance. Defense Tech: Drone Cargo Drops
Add another item to the arsenal of cool stuff Before now, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) were either reconnaisance platforms or more recently attack platforms. Now they can support the troops on the ground in other ways as well. Need some ammo? How about medical supplies? Gotcha covered Of course, they can also be used for dropping sonobouys and can carry a sort of cluster bomb making UAVs that much more versatile.
I’ve gotta hand it to the author – he’s got a pretty good handle on things here. Politicians these days are demonstrably disconnected from their constituents these days. Instead of concerning themselves with the concerns of those they represent, they chase after every dollar they can so that they can afford to campaign. The physical distance from those they’re supposed to represent is another matter. SILENCE IN SYRIA, PANIC IN IRAN
I’d love to post the entirety of Dr. Jack Wheeler’s genius, but he appears to make at least part of his living from his website as it requires a paid subscription to view the whole article and I’m not going to take away from that. The quote above is publicly available on his page without subscription. What it comes down to is this – Syria has been spending huge sums of money on Russian air defense systems and Israel calmly strolled in, bombed the *&^% out of a facility near Iraq, and strolled out again without tripping Syria’s air defense systems. This is definitely a must read for those interested in the current Middle East situation! It’s a bit of a long read, but well worth the time. Take a few minutes and check it out. You’ll soon understand why I worry about this from time to time. Airspeed: “Hey, Don!” and Oshkosh 2007 Wrap-Up I’ve got quite a few feeds that I subscribe to, one of which is Cap Blog. It was there that I happened upon a link to Airspeed which I think I’ll have to subscribe to, as well One of the links on that page went to a song – First Solo (Hey Don!) by Steve Tupper who authors Airspeed. This is the NSFW version One of these days I swear I’m going to get that pilot’s license and I swear I’m going to play this on the way home from my first solo flight Hat tip to Cap Blog I was hoping for lightning and thunder to film at normal speed with sound, but that had already passed. Here’s the best I got from my balcony last night. Moon and Clouds 1 – Clouds moving past the moon filmed at one frame per second (140KB) Storm Clouds Timelapse 1 – Storm moving through the Las Vegas valley filmed at one frame every five seconds(2MB) OK, I’ve promised video clips from my new camcorder and here they (finally) are Kenders’ Musings: Surreal Unreality or the Biggest WTF Ever!
Kender, you’ve got me laughing my butt off, too Canada – the land that grants asylum to U.S. draft dodgers, where you can smoke pot ’till your brain shrivels to the size of a raisin, where people are considering Sharia law, is freaking out about the new flood of illegal aliens fleeing the U.S. for freedom of worry about being caught in the U.S. and deported. I wonder what will happen when they start deporting people? Hats off, Kender |
