Oct. 26 falls on a Thursday this year.
Ask the significance of the date, and you’re likely to draw some puzzled looks — five more days to stock up for Halloween?
It’s a measure of men like Col. Mitchell Paige and Rear Adm. Willis A. “Ching Chong China” Lee that they wouldn’t have had it any other way. What they did 58 years ago, they did precisely so their grandchildren could live in a land of peace and plenty.
As Pinch says, this is definitely a must read !!! For everyone who thinks that one person can’t make a difference, go check it out and then tell me again why that’s so.

FOXNews.com – Poll Finds Almost Half of New Jersey Adults Want to Move Out of State – Local News | News Articles | National News | US News
Even New Jerseyans can’t stand living in New Jersey, according to a new poll that said nearly half of adults residing in the Garden State want to pull up stakes.
The Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll, released Wednesday, found 49 percent of those polled would rather live somewhere else.
New Jersey already is suffering from an image problem and bears the brunt of jokes because of its corruption and pollution problems. But 58 percent of those residents polled said the heavy financial burden of just living in the state is no laughing matter, and that’s why they want to leave.
Poll participants cited high property taxes (28 percent), the cost of living (19 percent), state taxes (5 percent) and housing costs (6 percent) as the main reasons they want out. The poll also found that 51 percent of those who expressed a desire to leave planned to do so, with adults under the age of 50 making between $50,000 and $100,000 the most likely to flee.
For some reason this reminds me of the People’s Republic of California. Big government, big taxes, not a lot of hope that it’ll change. Lots of Californians move to Las Vegas every year.
Looks like the people of New Jersey can see the light . Too bad the government of New Jersey can’t.

Researchers at University of East Anglia in Norwich, U.K., conducting a leadership study found the use of “taboo language” made the workplace more tolerable, according to Australia’s Daily Telegraph.
Yeah, I think our team at work already *&%#ing knew that !!! Still, it ought to make a nice arguement to use against those who aren’t as enlightened .

The European Union (EU) has agreed further funding for a European civil hypersonics project whose goal is to achieve passenger flights from Brussels to Sydney in “two to four hours”, at speeds of Mach 4 to 8. The now-retired Concorde was capable of only a little better than Mach 2.
I’m not an expert, but I know a few people who are . I know a whole lot about how problematic it was to get the A-12 and the SR-71 to fly at Mach 3 from talking with the Road Runners. I know about unstarts.
Mach 1 is easy. Mach 2 is easy for a short time, but difficult to maintian. Mach 3 is hard. This airliner is nearly impossible in the near future.
I’ll believe this aircraft will do its job when it happens. After all, I remember hearing 20 years ago that we’d have a commercial airliner spaceplane in 15 years .
Best of luck, guys!

Stop The ACLU » Blog Archive » Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize First Ever Given That Has Nothing To Do With Peace
Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have been awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize for 2007. According to the Nobel Foundation, the award was given “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change”. Predictably, conservatives and others who challenge the doctrines of man-made climate change are apoplectic at the award and claim it shows bias in the committee that makes such awards. They, however, miss the larger point.
Let’s assume for the moment that all of Al Gore’s claims on climate change are true. The idea that he gets the peace prize for such claims is what should merit discussion. The president of Czechoslovakia , Vaclav Klaus, also questioned the award for such a reason. To be fair, President Klaus is a climate change skeptic, but his point remains. Isn’t the Nobel Peace Prize about peace?
In 2006, the peace prize was given to Muhammed Yunus and Grameen Bank for economic and social development of poor countries. In 2005, it was to the International Atomic Energy Agency for nuclear non-proliferation work. In fact, in reviewing the entire balance of past award winners, the prize was given to those working to end conflicts, promote human rights, promote economic development in poor countries, or weapons non-proliferation. 2007 marks the first time the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded for a reason wholly unconnected to stopping war. Claims that climate change will cause violent conflicts are absurd on their face. People are entitled to think that man-made climate change is important, but that doesn’t make it a peace issue.
John Bambenek wrote this much better than I did. What you see above is just the beginning. I highly recommend reading the entire piece !

Another one I got in an email from Dad. Yeah, I agree with this whole thing.
SOCIALISM
There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question.
He asked, “Do you know how to catch wild pigs?” The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. “You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.
The young man told the professor that it is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms- just a little at a time. (One should always remember “There is no such thing as a free lunch”; and “You can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.)

Finally, again. Well, not really finally.
Y’know, like, it’s going to change again. And again. And I’ll probably have to expand it.
Congratulations, John !!!
Yeah, I’m jealous, but appreciative, too. Now I just have to get my collection going …

Terabyte Thumb Drives Made Possible by Nanotech Memory
Terabyte Thumb Drives Made Possible by Nanotech MemoryResearchers have developed a low-cost, low-power computer memory that could put terabyte-sized thumb drives in consumers’ pockets within a few years.
Thanks to a new technique for manipulating charged copper particles at the molecular scale, researchers at Arizona State University say their memory is, bit-for-bit, one-tenth the cost of — and 1,000 times as energy-efficient as — flash memory, the predominant memory technology in iPhones and other mobile devices.
“A thumb drive using our memory could store a terabyte of information,” says Michael Kozicki, director of ASU’s Center for Applied Nanoionics, which developed the technology. “All the current limitations in portable electronic storage could go away. You could record video of every event in your life and store it.”
Technology continues to amaze me. I’ve seen affordable 500MB external hard drives. I’ve seen $40.00 DVD burners. I’ve even seen brand new $300 laptops.
Having seen all that, an affordable terabyte thumb drive is still something cosmic and something I can’t wait to own !

I got this in an email from Dad the other day. One of his friends sent it to him. I just have to share it with everyone online.
Freaking AWESOME !!!
Amazing anyone walked away from this. It did it’s job!
Attached please find some amazing photos (sent to us by one of our own in theater). This is one of the new “hardened” vehicles that was hit by a 500 lb bomb (IED). The vehicle was totally destroyed, but EVERYONE IN THE VEHICLE WALKED AWAY. Note the unusual construction of the bottom of the hardened Pathfinder APC. Note the bottom looks like the hull of a ship. The blast picked up the truck and turned it around! The driver got some broken ribs (see the photo of the steering wheel), but that’s it. Everyone walked away from a 500 lb explosion directly beneath their vehicle.
Incredible!
Click the link below to download the power point with all the pics of the vehicle after the IED exploded.
