Order A Great Calendar, Support Children’s Charities, And Protest Censorship All In One Transaction!

Ryanair calendar – 2008 cabin crew charity calendar

Fox News:

MADRID, Spain — Spain’s government-run Women’s Institute has labeled a 2008 calendar for low-cost airline Ryanair featuring bikini-wearing air hostesses as sexist and said it would be sending letters of complaint to Irish and EU authorities.

Yep, it’s come down to this. Ryanair, a low-cost carrier in Europe, decided to do something to help out with children’s charities. They used volunteer flight attendants and put together a calendar of these lovely ladies in bikinis – everything is covered – and put them up for sale on flights and (luckily for me) on the internet – click here to go to the order page :) . Good, clean fun and a good way to raise money for a worthy cause, right?

The Spanish Women’s Institute (funded and run by the government of Spain) doesn’t think this is such a good idea. They claim it’s sexist and are filing complaints with the European Union and the government of Ireland where Ryanair is based. They claim that men should have been included and that they would have had no problem if that were the case.

I have two reactions to the Spanish Women’s Institute – :wtf: and :bs:

Saturday In Las Vegas…

Yeah, about the weather today – it BITES  !

Lat/Lon: 36.09 -115.09 Elevation: 1889 ft

Las Vegas, McCarran International Airport
Last Update on 08 Dec 9:12 PST

Mostly Cloudy

46°F
(8°C) Humidity: 66 %
Wind Speed: NNE 9 MPH

Barometer: 29.79 in (N/A mb)
Dewpoint: 36°F (2°C)
Wind Chill: 41°F (5°C)
Visibility: 10.00 Miles

I was originally supposed to drive down to Fontana for a friend’s Christmas party, but alas, the weather just ain’t what I want to see when making my way through the Cajon Pass. It’s supposed to be windy, snowy, and cold. Aside from never having driven in snow, my car and its tires just aren’t suited to the snow. I tend to trust in my abilities to navigate just about any road in just about any condition (really hate fog though  ), but I have significantly less faith and confidence in my fellow motorists’ abilities :P .

So now I’m not going to Fontana and the weather here really sucks – what to do :? ?

There’s lots of housework to be done, but I’m not really in the mood. I’ll probably do some anyway.

I’ve been meaning to buy some thermal underwear… Maybe a trip to Wal Mart :) . You see, it’s been freaking COLD lately, especially right after warm summer temperatures and I really want to be comfy outside which brings us to my next plan.

Fishing :D ! Yes, I’ve got a new tackle box, lots of lures, baits, hooks, sinkers and such, three rod/reel combos including a brand new catfish combo and a combo I put together myself – a light weight rod (the salesman called it a “banana rod”) and a light reel, a case to carry the rods & reels all together, and a brand new chair with a sun shade.

Well, it’s off to Wal Mart for some warm clothing, then over to the conservatory at the Bellagio to look at the cool stuff there and then back home before going out fishing 8) .

Have fun everyone :thumb: !

New Hobby – Fishing!

Yep, it’s that time again – another new hobby/interest/whatever and this time it’s fishing :) .

Bass Pro Shops’ Outdoor World has a sizable chunk of my hard earned $$$, but at least I’m geared up for whatever I might want to catch. Of course, I will have to learn to cast with a baitcasting reel, but even that should be a fun learning experience, right  ?

Current inventory consists of one tackle box (which may be replaced – I bought it more for rocketry), numerous baits, lures, etc. and three rod/reel combos. One is super light (spinning), one medium (also spinning), and one is fairly heavy duty (baitcasting). I figure the ultra light gear will be good for lots of stuff as will the medium combo. I bought the heavier duty gear because I have a feeling I might want to go after striped bass in Lake Mead or catfish other places.

I still haven’t gotten a chance to use two of the three rods, but that should change soon – I’m planning on keeping at least the two lighter rigs and tackle box in my car and going by a pond on my way home 8) .

I think this should be relaxing and fun :thumb: !

Something To Look Forward To

Lately I’ve noticed that I always need something to look forward to. Let me tell you, work ain’t ever it. Work is work, not too bad lately to tell you the truth, but I really don’t want to go in tomorrow, especially considering that they called me up on Saturday (first time that’s ever happened) to offer overtime this weekend. I politely thanked them and declined the offer with the explanation that it was my birthday and I had plans both days. Working in telecom, you learn to hate bad weather, but for a completely different reason than when in car sales. Bad weather means stuff breaks – lots of stuff. And I have to try to get it fixed. C’est la vie, c’est la guerre  .

Lately, I’ve had Aviation Nation and my birthday to look forward to. Now it’s my impending trip to Fontana for my friend’s holiday party and my brother’s visit (for which I’ve booked two days of vacation just before the weekend  ).

In the short term, I’d really been looking forward to going fishing at Sunset Park, but that was not to be. Stuff got in the way on Sunday, so it’ll have to be a bit later than that.

So now it’s fishing, SoCal, seeing my brother, Christmas, New Years, and probably going down to the Planes of Fame museum’s airshow in May :) . See, there’s always something to look forward to 8) .

Turbine Toucan – OMG!!!

I wrote a post yesterday about my birthday plans and just look what showed up in the comments section from David Kervinen – the owner of Team Toucan 8) !!!

David // Dec 1, 2007 at 20:17

Hey Jeff,
We got some new small little clips up of the Toucan we thought you’d like. High speed pass and start/take-off roll. OK, so it’s your birthday!? We’d like to send you a Turbine Toucan T-Shirt if you can fit into a large or x-large. You got my e-mail address. Send me a note and we’ll get you out a shirt. Happy Birthday!

Yeah, that email has been sent – thanks again, David :thumb: ! You made a great day even better  !

That comment was great, but I finally got a chance to check out the videos and all I could think was OMG  !!! Now remember, I’m a somewhat jaded aviation nut who’s been to more airshows than I can remember. The Toucan’s takeoff was just unreal! Check out the videos below:

Startup, taxi, and launch takeoff:

High speed pass:

One thing to remember about that takeoff – he had full fuel tanks which added about 500 pounds to the plane, so that’s a reduced performance takeoff  . I can’t wait to see what happens when the team starts going after world records!

Thanks again, David and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and to all of Team Toucan :thumb: !

The Invasion Of The Smilies!!!

So yeah, I like to use smilies – got a problem with that :P ? There’s a whole bunch I use on F-16.net that I didn’t have on my blog and wanted, so I finally figured out how to use ‘em over here 8) .

Below the fold is a list of all the smilies that work on this blog along with their codes :) . You can bet I’ll use ‘em, but you can also use ‘em in the comments, too :thumb: !

Have fun  !

Birthday Plans

Yep, it’s that time of year again – my birthday :D !

This one is a bit shocking for me as I realise it’s been 10 years as of tomorrow since my first visit to Las Vegas. My fabulous brother took me to Vegas for two nights on the day after my 21st birthday and yes, I had a blast 8) ! Alcohol was consumed and I even left with more money than I came with :) . Just a few days later I met one of my best friends in the whole world – the one with the Corvette that caught fire  .

Fast forward to today and I’m 31 years old. Let me say that again – I’m 31  ??? How did that happen?????

Anyway, back on track, I’m 31 and life is quite different – so much better in so many ways. I now live in Las Vegas instead of San Diego, I’ve got a great roommate, great friends, a job that actually pays the bills, and some pretty cool toys. I’ve met some incredible people through the Road Runners Internationale, I’m still in photo and video mode, but it’s now being supplemented with fishing – but more on that later  .

So what are the plans for today – my actual Birthday? So far I’ve managed to lounge around and do laundry. When Cindy gets back, we’re going out for a late lunch / early dinner – something Italian :) . We’re also planning on going out on the Strip for a bit – go see the conservatory at the Bellagio, maybe the fountains, could be that we go someplace like the Venetian, the Mirage, maybe the MGM 8) ?

Here’s hoping your Saturday is going just as great as mine :D !
