Minutes To Midnight

2008 is becoming 2009 in a mere matter of minutes so I’m going to have to write quickly which I normally don’t do. Thoughts will be laid out below and will be examined a bit later.

2009 will see me living alone again for the first time in quite a few years.

2008 saw one of my co-workers end his life.

2008 saw my firearms collection expand from a .22 rifle to include LOTS MORE.

2009 is the year I lose the weight again.

2008 nearly saw me leave my job. Repeatedly. Kind of like 2007.

2008 saw my 2006 Cavalier totaled and my acquisition of a great 2008 HHR.

2008 saw one of my best friends bestowed with mixed tidings. Yes, Kerry – that’s you and I wish you all the best.

2009 is more full of uncertainty than any upcoming year I can remember.

2009 will see me try my hand at competitive shooting. Shame I won’t be able to get my company to sponsor me.

2008 saw Coal the Cat enter our lives.

2009 is the year I will see the doc about sleep apnea and the dentist about this months old tooth problem.

2009 will see the Kadet Sr. fly!!!

2008 saw me keep a loaded firearm or two in the house at all times for the second time in my life. I don’t think this will change. As a matter of fact, I think I’m going to get my CCW.

2008 saw me become KE7VYA.

2009 will see me camping more often.

2009 will see me blogging more.

One more minute to midnight.

Happy New Year, everyone!

F-22 Raptor Team Sends Seasons Greetings E-Card

So I was minding my own business and just cruising through F-16.net when I see a topic entitled “THIS IS COOL!” which could mean just about anything. I click on the link and I find that it’s an animated e-card from the F-22 Raptor team 8)

Click on the image below or click here to see it in a new window. Really, it’s worth the click and the time

Snow in Vegas!!!

Global warming my ASS!!! Al Gore needs to get himself out here and I demand that he show up in shorts, a T-shirt, and a pair of Birkenstocks in which he should parade up and down the Strip for 24 hours :)

And to think we were near 100 degrees just 90 days ago…

Here’s some quick pics from yesterday, last night, and Monday 8)

Hump Day Raptor Goodness!

I found this while cruising F-16.net and just had to post it :)

U.S. Air Force Major Paul “Max” Moga talks us through his demonstration with accompanying video of each maneuver. This ROCKS

Coal the Cat

My roommate Cindy and her niece had seen a black cat out around 2100 last night near our place. It seemed very friendly and all, so they figured it had wandered a little ways from home and would go back later. No tags, but that really doesn’t mean anything, right?

So later on around midnight, I left my room to go get a drink when I heard meowing. We have a cat (named “Mine” because Cindy says, “He’s Mine”) and I knew he was in her room. I listened closer and heard that it was coming from outside. I looked out the window and there was a black cat right outside.

I opened the door and it sure felt like I’d opened a refrigerator – it was COLD out! After a couple of moments the black cat came inside and looked around. I had to go tell Cindy – she wouldn’t want this to be a surprise after all. Yeah, I woke her up and she took it just fine. We stayed up a while to make sure everything would be OK with the two cats together and they seemed fine.

I’m going to make some calls tomorrow to find out about the possibility of checking him for a microchip and all. If we can’t find the owner that way, we may just wind up giving him to Cindy’s sister as a Christmas present.

So why the name “Coal” you ask? Well, Cindy’s family comes from an area of Utah known for coal mining for one thing and with another cat named “Mine” it seems fitting, especially with his color. Yes, he’s jet black down to his whiskers with bright yellow-green eyes and gorgeous! Another thought was that if he does become a Christmas present it would be a great play on words to give someone “Coal” in their stocking!

There is one more option – I may just keep him myself…

I’ll try to get some pictures posted tomorrow.

F/A-18 Hornet Down in San Diego

I’ll update this when I have time, but for now the basics.

An F/A-18 Hornet crashed into a home today near La Jolla, CA. The pilot is reported to have ejected before impact, but his condition is unknown. It is also unknown if the house was occupied at the time or if there were any injuries to people on the ground.

Prayers are needed people. Mine are on the way.

[UPDATE]After reading more about this incident at Lex’s place, it turns out that there were people in the house. Everyone but Dad. Words cannot express what I’d like to say. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who were lost and those who lived. May God look after them all.[/UPDATE]

R/C BLACKBIRD – SEVEN YEARS IN THE MAKING

I stumbled on this a couple of years ago and have been watching the progress ever since. Lance is a radio control airplane guy as you can see from his home page.

What you really need to see is his monster 1/8 scale SR-71 project which recently flew with turbine power for the first time. He truly built this aircraft from scratch and deserves kudos for the engineering and the dedication it took to make this happen :)

Way to go, Lance :D Best wishes and keep us posted 8)

Here’s some YouTube video of Lance’s creation :)

Job Hunting

With the layoffs of three of my co-workers I no longer feel that my job here is secure, regardless of how well I perform. Therefore I’m back in the mode of job hunting. I have at least two very good leads. One would probably be my favorite job ever. And it pays well :)

Wish me luck!
