I was out apartment hunting during lunch break today – gotta be in the new place by March 1 Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that this place is about a mile from work! When the visibility gets this good and the clouds are this high, I can’t help but think about just how big a place this really is. Funny, it never really seems to get dark in Las Vegas. I mean, you really could kill the headlights and not have a problem. Palm trees, a few stars, some clouds. Oh, and something tells me I need a better digital camera. Honest to God I didn’t forget the picture for Monday. I just passed out while trying to get things packed up for the move. As a change from everything in my apartment, here’s sunset yesterday as I left work Nope, I didn’t go anywhere today. I’ve been working on cleaning up and packing my belongings. This may be second nature to Pinch, but I’ve only moved myself four times. So many decisions – what to take, what to keep, what to let go of. In keeping with tonight’s Buffett theme, this is a picture of one of the many parrot and Jimmy Buffett related things you’ll find around the Parrothead Jeff abode. It’s a metal sign I bought Cindy which references one of my favorite Buffett songs of all time – Lone Palm from the Fruitcakes album which was released in 1994. The relevant passage from that song goes:
I suppose the song fit better the last time I made a major change in my life. It was even the last song of the night at my first Buffett concert, though it had been a personal favorite long before that night. The last time I made what I consider a major change in my life was when I committed to move from San Diego to Las Vegas in search of continued romance with Cindy, a change of scenery, and a decent job. I’d never lived anywhere but San Diego before this. I clicked on the link to my google photos and this picture came on the screen. What a blast from the past! Cruising along in Adrienne’s 1975 Corvette Stingray roadster down the coast of southern California… ![]() Adrienne's Vette Sure, I was broke as a joke most of the time. The funny thing is that didn’t matter very much to us at the time. We’d wind up having a drink at Lowe’s Coronado Bay Resort or at the Pannikin in La Jolla. We might find ourselves riding rental horses down washes near the border with Old Mexico within the sound of the waves. Dinner was usually a cheap burrito from Robertos or something similar. We’d fall asleep aboard Bruja (a 27′ sailboat) listening to the surf at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club some nights and others we’d spend on a rooftop porch in Vista, California listening to the distant rumble of artillery on Camp Pendleton. You never just knew. If only we knew then what we know now about how good a life that was… There’s usually at least one Buffett song for any occasion. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it The two Buffett tunes I think fit in with this post best are Autour Du Rocher and Tin Cup Chalice. Click on the titles for the lyrics. I highly recommend both albums they come from I should be ashamed of myself for not posting this earlier, but DOS GRINGOS IS PLAYING A BENEFIT CONCERT IN LAS VEGAS ON JANUARY 30 Who is/are DOS GRINGOS? Go check out their site – Dos Gringos Rocks For those of you who don’t want to click on the link, Dos Gringos is a music group formed by two HONEST TO GOD F-16 FIGHTER PILOTS – Stitch and Snooze – who sing some of the funniest and possibly most offensive songs I’ve ever heard and bought From their website:
Don’t bring the kids or anyone who has a problem with the word “F**K”, but make sure to tell everyone you can. It’s for the charity, after all Thanks go out to Mike at No Angst Zone for reminding me to get off my butt and post this I didn’t really get out much today, so I figured I’d post a family collection picture of my small collection of firearms From left to right are my Century M70AB1, Marlin Model 60, Swiss K-31, Hi-Point C9, Steyr M95, M91/30, and M44. The Century M70AB1 is a semi-auto version of the Yugoslavian AK-47 which uses many parts of an original Yugo AK, but on a U.S. made semi-auto receiver with a U.S. made barrel and several other U.S. parts. The Marlin Model 60 is a semi-auto .22 rifle which I got from Grandpa via Mom and Dad for my 18th birthday. The K31 once belonged to the Swiss Army and is one of two straight-pull bolt action rifles I own. The Hi-Point C9 is a 9mm semi-auto pistol I paid $120 new for at Ace Hardware in Overton, NV and which has been trouble free for over 1600 rounds. The Steyr M95 was the WWI battle rifle of the Austro-Hungarian Army and was used by several countries for non-front line service through WWII. The Mosin Nagant 91/30 as used by Russia in both World Wars. The M-44 served with the Russian Army in WWII. Each one of these guns has a different history, a different story and a different meaning for me. One thing’s for sure, they sure are fun out in the desert For more info on the old military guns, head on over to surplusrifle.com Henderson, NV When do they take these down? Just curious |
