The annual Field Day for the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and radio hams in general is today and the Las Vegas Radio Amateur Club (LVRAC) is going to be on the air for 24 hours straight down at Sunset park. Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be there for very long. I’m still feeling a bit under the weather and it’s supposed to be about 102° out there today or warmer. Tomorrow’s supposed to be 106° or warmer. While this isn’t much to think about in Vegas, I know from my experience going shooting with Huck on Wednesday that I’m really not up to being out in that weather for long. I was just completely worn out by being out there for a couple of hours. The club will have shelters with a couple of swamp coolers set up, but I don’t know how well those will work. They asked for everyone to bring a bag of ice as this is one of the biggest expenses, so I’ll go and say hi and drop off a couple of bags of ice, and wish them well. Maybe next year will be better. End of the week thoughts brought to you courtesy of Jimmy Buffett – because it’s just after 1430 hours and I’ve only got two hours left until I get to get the heck outta here for the weekend From Havana Daydreamin’, I bring you Kick it in Second Wind
I think I may have to stop by Margaritaville down on the Strip OK, this is just weird. Take a look at the search engine and the search words. Now, take a look at the domain name. ![]() Now that's interesting... Why is someone on a government computer in California searching for “CIA Hiring Process” on canadaspace.com??? Nothing surprises me anymore No doubt you’ve heard about the unholy mess that is the California budget and the huge defecit they’re trying to deal with, right? From what I’ve heard, it’s bad and I’m glad I got out when I did. Well, apparently it’s not considered by some in government. You see, it appears that they’re changing the color of the bike lanes. Because it must be that important. From Ride Fast and Shoot Straight:
Uh huh. To quote Jo Dee Messina, my give-a-damn’s busted. I saw this the other day at Cost Plus World Market and I immediately thought of Wirecutter. Wirecutter writes a (mostly NOT SAFE FOR WORK) blog known as KNUCKLEDRAGGIN MY LIFE AWAY. Fair warning, it’s not for children, those who might be easily offended, those who don’t have a sufficiently twisted sense of humor, or those who have a thin skin. I like it A recurring theme over at KNUCKLEDRAGGIN is bacon. Bacon lip balm, bacon vodka, wild turkey and bacon sandwich, even a couple of bacon recipes. Of course, it’s not all bacon – there’s plenty of girls, guns, and anti-Obama stuff too Yeah, you know I like it From the box we read:
Now, I know everyone but Wirecutter is probably thinking that this just is not right. I tried some a few minutes ago and was very pleasantly surprised – it really is good This one’s for you, Wirecutter Sorry for the slow posting today. I’m just still pretty tired after yesterday and couldn’t really sleep last night. That said, there will be a pic up tonight I figured I’d better make up for yesterday. Here’s hoping the quantity and quality are up to your expectations I don’t have time to write out a separate description for each photo, so the captions will have to do I do have to explain about Huck. Huck’s pretty new to Las Vegas and found me on the internet a few days ago. He asked my opinion on a couple of different rifles and I said, “Why not try them out for yourself?” Yeah, we had fun As many people do, Huck wanted his picture taken with the AK-47. Who am I to say no? Make sure to click on the pictures to download the full size version and then click on that to see it really big Without further ado, on to the pictures So there’s another day in the books on this blog of mine. I hope you enjoy the pictures. I think I’d have to say that the pictures of Huck with the AK-47 came out pretty darn good. I also have to say that I’m really and truly pleased with the panorama. I meant for it to put the viewer out in the southern Nevada desert at sunset if only for a brief moment. I get that feeling, but then again I was actually there. Does it work for you? Have an even better day tomorrow I’ve read about this issue on many different blogs, but I think a couple of the best pieces of writing about it come from Classical Values which I found via Of Arms and the Law by David Hardy and David Codrea’s National Gun Rights Examiner column today. I cannot in good conscience keep quiet about this issue. What it boils down to is that Lautenberg wants to allow the Attorney General, at his discression, to prevent people on the Federal No-Fly and Terrorist Watch lists from purchasing firearms legally. Sounds like common sense on the face of it, right? So what’s the big deal? A little thing called Due Process. Sure, there’s other problems but this is the biggest one I can see right off the bat. Why, you ask? Let’s say you find out you’re on The List somehow. Most likely it’ll be when you’re trying to get on a plane or (if this goes through) trying to buy a gun. All of a sudden, you’re DENIED. You ask why you’ve been denied and you may or may not be told you’re on The List. Because, you see, it’s a SECRET! How did you get on The List? You’ve got it – that’s another SECRET! What’s not a secret is that it doesn’t take any sort of legal proceeding to get on The List. No warrants need be issued, no judges need be disturbed. Some faceless bureaucrat somewhere decides that you should be on The List and POOF! Your rights just disappeared like a white tiger in a Las Vegas magic show! What can you do to get yourself de-listed? Good question. Meanwhile, you’re S.O.L. when it comes to your First Amendment, Second Amendment, Fourth Amendment, and Fifth Amendment rights. All this from a man who has sworn to uphold the Constitution. As mentioned previously, I stayed home from work today and did nothing but rest. And I am feeling better. That said, I did not go out and take a picture, so I raided the internet for something light-hearted to finish the day Yep, someone’s finally telling the truth Have a better day tomorrow Sorry this is a day late, but I came home sick yesterday and stayed home today, too. The only stops I made on the way home were at 7/11 for some Pepto and drinks and Exotic Pets for some food for Ziva. I saw this and immediately thought of Kath So there you go, Kath |
