I know tomorrow (or should I say today?) is Monday, but it’s another day still breathing, vertical, and superterranian – get out and have a better than average time of it :D

Picture A Day – 26 July 2009

I’m going back into the archives today because I spent a whole bunch of time getting my apartment cleaned up :) I love that it no longer could be described as a worse mess than California’s budget :P

26 July 2009 - 737 taking flight on 28 July 2007

26 July 2009 - 737 taking flight on 28 July 2007

I found this picture floating around on my computer and when I checked the timestamp, I realized it was taken just about two years ago   I’d just gotten my Sanyo camera and was testing it out by the airport.

I realize from time to time just how long I’ve been here and how different things have gotten in the last five or six years.  I just really have no idea what I’ll be doing or where I’ll live at any great time in the future.  Everything’s really fluid right now.  Which is somewhat the way I like it 8)

I hope y’all like the picture :D  Have fun and stay safe

Government BS – Add Another Log to the Fire

I’ve written before about the fear of overreaching government and how even seasoned police officers thinking it’s not looking good for good times.  If you haven’t read it before, you should check out A Second American Revolution? and the linked articles – especially COMMENTARY: Four Reasons Why Gun Sales Are Up.

Add another log on that fire, folks.  If this healthcare bill passes, I truly believe that there will be bloodshed.  Just take a look at what’s in it:

July 23, 2009
Look Here to See What’s in the Health Care Bill: CHILLING!
Larry Schweikart

Take a look at what actually is in the Health Care bill. Obama makes disingenuous comments like “You’ll still keep your doctor” or “You’ll keep your existing health care.” He is either lying to us or he has no idea what is in it. Take a peek at the full report, or look at some of the highlights here:

Pg 22 of the HC Bill mandates the Government will audit books of all employers that self insure. Can you imagine what that will do to small businesses? Every one will abandon “self insurance” and go on Government insurance. So when Obama says that there will still be private health care, it’s simply a lie: this mandate will force employers to abandon their private plans.

Pg 30 Sec 123 of HC bill – a Government committee (good luck with that!) will decide what treatments/benefits a person may receive.

Pg 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill – YOUR HEALTHCARE WILL BE RATIONED! (We all knew this, because health care is rationed in Canada and Britain, but Obama kept saying it would not be).

Pg 42 of HC Bill – The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC Benefits for you. You will have no choice!

PG 50 Section 152 in HC bill – HC will be provided to ALL non US citizens, illegal or otherwise.

Pg 58 HC Bill – Government will have real-time access to individual’s finances and a National ID Healthcard will be issued!

Pg 59 HC Bill lines 21-24 Government will have direct access to your bank accts for election funds transfer

PG 65 Sec 164 is a payoff subsidized plan for retirees and their families in Unions & community organizations (read: ACORN).

Pg 72 Lines 8-14 Government will create an HC Exchange to bring private HC plans under Government control.

PG 84 Sec 203 HC bill – Government mandates ALL benefit packages for private HC plans in the Exchange.

PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill – Specifics of Benefit Levels for Plans = The Government will ration your Healthcare!

PG 91 Lines 4-7 HC Bill – Government mandates linguistic appropriate services. Example – Translation for illegal aliens.

Pg 95 HC Bill Lines 8-18 The Government will use groups, i.e. ACORN & Americorps, to sign up individuals for Government HC plan.

PG 85 Line 7 HC Bill – Specifics of Benefit Levels for Plans. AARP members – your Health care WILL be rationed.

-PG 102 Lines 12-18 HC Bill – Medicaid Eligible Individuals will be automatically enrolled in Medicaid. No choice.

pg 124 lines 24-25 HC No company can sue Government on price fixing. No “judicial review” against Government Monopoly.

pg 127 Lines 1-16 HC Bill – Doctors/ AMA – The Government will tell YOU what you can earn.

Pg 145 Line 15-17 An Employer MUST auto enroll employees into public option plan. NO CHOICE.

Pg 126 Lines 22-25 Employers MUST pay for HC for part time employees AND their families.

Pg 149 Lines 16-24 ANY Employer with payroll $400k & above who does not provide public option pays 8% tax on all payroll.

pg 150 Lines 9-13 Businesses with payroll between $251k & $400k who don’t provide public option pay 2-6% tax on all payroll.

Pg 167 Lines 18-23 ANY individual who doesn’t have acceptable HC according to Government will be taxed 2.5% of income.

Pg 170 Lines 1-3 HC Bill Any NONRESIDENT Alien is exempt from individual taxes. (Americans will pay.)

Pg 195 HC Bill -officers & employees of HC Admin (the GOVERNMENT) will have access to ALL Americans’ finances and personal records.

PG 203 Line 14-15 HC – “The tax imposed under this section shall not be treated as tax” Yes, it says that.

Pg 239 Line 14-24 HC Bill Government will reduce physician services for Medicaid. Seniors, low income, poor affected.

Pg 241 Line 6-8 HC Bill – Doctors – doesn’t matter what specialty – will all be paid the same.

PG 253 Line 10-18 Government sets value of Doctor’s time, professional judgment, etc. Literally, value of humans.

PG 265 Sec 1131Government mandates & controls productivity for private HC industries.

PG 268 Sec 1141 Federal Government regulates rental & purchase of power driven wheelchairs.

PG 272 SEC. 1145. TREATMENT OF CERTAIN CANCER HOSPITALS – Cancer patients – welcome to rationing!

Page 280 Sec 1151 The Government will penalize hospitals for what Government deems preventable readmissions.

Pg 298 Lines 9-11 Doctors who treat a patient during initial admission that results in a readmission – Government will penalize you.

Pg 317 L 13-20 OMG!! PROHIBITION on ownership/investment. Government tells Doctors what/how much they can own.

Pg 317-318 lines 21-25,1-3 PROHIBITION on expansion – Government will mandate hospitals cannot expand.

pg 321 2-13 Hospitals have opportunity to apply for exception BUT community input required. Can u say ACORN?!

Pg335 L 16-25 Pg 336-339 – Government mandates establishment of outcome-based measures which of course forces health care rationing.

Pg 341 Lines 3-9 Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Adv Plans, HMOs, etc., forcing people into Government plan.

Pg 354 Sec 1177 – Government will RESTRICT enrollment of Special needs people!

Pg 379 Sec 1191 Government creates more bureaucracy – Telehealth Advisory Committee. HC by phone.

PG 425 Lines 4-12 Government mandates Advance Care Planning Consultations. Think Senior Citizens end of life prodding.

Pg 425 Lines 17-19 Government will instruct & consult regarding living wills, durable powers of attorney. Mandatory!

PG 425 Lines 22-25, 426 Lines 1-3 Government provides approved list of end of life resources, guiding you in how to die.

PG 427 Lines 15-24 Government mandates program for orders for end of life. The Government has a say in how your life ends.

Pg 429 Lines 1-9 An “advanced care planning consultant” will be used frequently as patients’ health deteriorates.

PG 429 Lines 10-12 “advanced care consultation” may include an ORDER for end of life plans. AN ORDER from the Government to end a life!

Pg 429 Lines 13-25 – The Government will specify which Doctors can write an end of life order.

PG 430 Lines 11-15 The Government will decide what level of treatment you will have at end of life.

Pg 469 – Community Based Home Medical Services/Non profit orgs. (ACORN Medical Services here?)

Page 472 Lines 14-17 PAYMENT TO COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION. 1 monthly payment to a community-based organization. (Like ACORN?)

PG 489 Sec 1308 The Government will cover Marriage & Family therapy. Which means they will insert Government into our marriages.

Pg 494-498 Government will cover Mental Health Services including defining, creating, rationing those services. You’d better speak up now before you are on the “advanced care consultation” list.

Now, you tell me with the number of good hearted, religious, gun owning Americans just how long it would be until someone opened fire if the government said that it was time for a family member to die because they’re too expensive to care for.  Tell me how many people in the USA would take kindly to the Federal Government prying into their bank accounts.

I’m thinking I might just start really stockpiling some food, ammo, and buying up a bit of gold here and there.

This ain’t lookin’ too good.

Stealing “Offensive” Signs

Obama’s birth certificate is a contentious item. Really, I’d like to see it – I had to show mine for my job and I think a position of employment as important as the President of the United States is one that should require it as well.

Whatever your views on the matter are, there are right ways and wrong ways to go about expressing them. Putting up signs is protected by the First Amendment and harms nobody. This is the right way to do things. Stealing someone else’s signs because they “offend” you is the wrong way to do it. See below for examples.

From the YouTube description:

I caught the guy stealing signs I had just made up……. they already stole 15 signs all within 7 hours of placing them……. 7 of them were from Dr. James David Manning, but I figured I would start making my own…… Cheaper Bait to catch them…… I will be placing more…….

I’d have called the cops with the license plate number and given them the video. But that’s me. Your mileage may vary.

Picture(s) A Day – 24 July 2009

I know I’m late with this post, but I realized that my AK-47 needed some TLC last night and found that it took considerably more time to properly clean than I thought it would.  Wolf ammo shoots dirty and I hadn’t cleaned it in a while.  Not that AKs need to be kept pristine, far from it.  I love my AK because I know it’ll keep going through stuff that would turn most rifles into non-firing war clubs.  Still, I felt a bit guilty so I cleaned it all up real nice :)

Oh, you wanted some pictures, right :P ?

24 July 2009 - Gas prices are still reasonable

24 July 2009 - Gas prices are still reasonable

It was time to feed Ziva and I was out of snake food, so I had to head on down to Exotic Pets again.  I noticed that gas prices are still reasonable, but some places are more reasonable than others.  With an 18¢ per gallon difference between these two stations, I’m amazed that the Sinclair station still sells gas.

24 July 2009 - So cute when they're sleeping!

24 July 2009 - So cute when they're sleeping!

It’s not just snakes and scorpions at Exotic Pets as you’ve seen before and while I do like those critters, I figured I’d keep this post “Kath friendly” for a change

Aside from their odor and my allergies to them, I love ferrets.  Cindy describes them as rubber bands on springs which is a fair assessment.  They’re mischevious little critters who will hide your car keys for fun :P

24 July 2009 - Miscevious little guys

24 July 2009 - Cute little guys

I hear that prarie dogs make good pets, but I don’t think I could provide them with the right home – they need a colony and I have no room.

24 July 2009 - Kookaburras are still there

24 July 2009 - Kookaburras are still there

I really wish I had a place to put a couple of these guys.  They’re expensive, exotic, and loud – my kind of animals if I could do it right :)

24 July 2009 - Chillin' chinchilla

24 July 2009 - Chillin' chinchilla

Chinchillas are so cute and soft!  One of my mom’s friends had one when I was growing up.  I might just get one or two of these guys some day 8)

24 July 2009 - A three foot long rabbit???

24 July 2009 - A three foot long rabbit???

So you like dogs, but don’t like carnivores?  Want something big and soft?  This Flemish giant rabbit might just be for you :D  I wonder if they can be litter box trained…

24 July 2009 - More prarie dogs

This was just too cute to pass up

24 July 2009 - Yeah, I knew there was a reason I liked this place!

24 July 2009 - Yeah, I knew there was a reason I liked this place!

I’d seen the sign before, but I hadn’t ever taken a picture of it.  Yes, the owner is a Parrothead 8)

That’s it for now :)  Have fun and stay safe out there

Last Post of the Day – Future Weapons – Non-Lethal

OK, one last post before I go to bed tonight :)

One of my all time favorite shows is Future Weapons on Discovery.  I know, you’re all SHOCKED(!!!) that I’d like a show about weapons   What might surprise some of you out there is that some of my favorite parts of that show are the ones about non-lethal systems.

Yes, I love guns.  Yes, I love muzzle blast, muzzle flash, recoil, and impact.  I really like when I hit a can full of water with a hollow point AK-47 round, 9mm +P JHP round, or a full power rifle round – it just goes BOOM!!!

That said, I would much prefer to stop someone without killing them.  I don’t like death.  I’d much rather I had to pay for someone’s lifetime incarceration than to have blood on my hands.

While cruising YouTube, I came across a few videos that I just thought were too neat and cool not to share :D

Future Weapons – X-Net Car Arrest System

Need to stop a car and can’t put up a barrier? Is the target car equipped with run-flat tires? X-Net’s the answer 8) When a car drives over the X-Net, the spikes embed into the tire and then pull the net around, wrapping the axle. That car’s not going anywhere!

Future Weapons – TASER’s XREP

Tasers are short range. It’s the nature of the beast – you have darts connected to the launcher with wires. Taser has increased the range greatly with XREP. XREP is fired from any 12 gauge shotgun, so it’s pretty versatile. When the fin-stabilized projectile hits a person, prongs are embedded in their skin and the body of the projectile swings down with more electrodes. The bad guy goes down, then goes before a jury! Now that’s justice :D

Futureweapons – Beretta LTL (Less Than Lethal) 7000

Last we have the Baretta LTL 7000. This may look like a shotgun, but it’s not your average Baretta pump action

A series of valves bleeds off a precise amount of propellant gas to make sure that the impact energy of the non-lethal round stays constant no matter if the target is 50 feet or 230 feet away. This would be great for riots and crowd control – you get the people away from where you don’t want them, keep the operator safe, and nobody gets killed

I like this kind of technology. Not every problem is a nail when you have more tools than just a hammer

Have fun and stay safe 8)

After work, I headed to REI to get some items to resupply my first aid kit.  I’m not happy that I had to do this, but I’d rather be ready than sorry!

While traveling through the parking lot, I spied this Jaguar.  Now that’s one cool cat 8)

Possible Plans for Friday…

So just what the heck am I going to do tomorrow???  I mean, I live in Vegas for crying out loud :D

Work is a given.  I’ve gotta go to work to afford to live, right?  So what to do after work?  I know I have to go to the pet shop for food for Ziva and I need to go by the bank, but then it’s Friday in Vegas, even if I don’t have tons of $$$.  What to do  ?

Possibilities at this time include:

  • Dinner at Margaritaville 8)
  • Dinner at Mr. Lucky’s at the Hard Rock
  • Dinner at Paris
  • Bread shopping at the Paris bakery (fresh baked :) )
  • Stopping by the Welcome Sign (almost a given)
  • Pics and maybe video at Bellagio
  • Gambling at Fitzgerald’s or Casino Royale (low enough minimum bets there)
  • Scaring myself silly on a ride at the top of the Stratosphere
  • Riding a roller coaster at New York, New York or Sahara
  • Checking out the lions at the MGM Grand
  • Going to Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay
  • Watching the Sirens of TI or the volcano at Mirage
  • Dinner at the Bay City Diner in the Golden Gate on Freemont Street
  • Finally trying a batter-dipped, deep fried twinkie
  • Finding the world’s largest gold nugget at the Golden Nugget
  • Urinating (almost) on the Berlin Wall at Main Street Station – there’s a piece of it in one of the men’s rooms :P
  • Grabbing a $1 hot dog or margarita at Slots of Fun
  • Checking out the penguins and flamingos at the Flamingo

So many possibilities and only so much time and $$$…

My only real goal for the whole exercise is to wake up sometime on Saturday without a hangover, in my own bed, with money still in the bank, and a full recollection of the nights adventures 8)

What will I do  ?

Katy Perry – Waking Up in Vegas

There’s a new song going through my speakers on repeat tonight :)  It’s called “Waking Up in Vegas” by Katy Perry.  It’s got a great beat, lots of energy, and it’s pure Vegas :D  Some might say it’s a “girly” song, but you probably know I don’t care very much about what most people think

OK, I do care what people think sometimes… usually when I can get them to stare, slack-jawed and with their mental gears jammed and pouring smoke out of their ears by completely negating a part of the way their view of the universe works

This is one of those times where I just like something and I couldn’t care less what anyone else says 8)

Katy Perry - Waking Up in Vegas - Click to play on YouTube

You gotta help me out
It’s all a blur last night
We need a taxi ’cause you’re hung-over and I’m broke
I lost my fake ID but you lost the motel key
Spare me your freakin’ dirty looks
Now don’t play me
You want to cash out and get the hell out of town

[CHORUS:]
Don’t be a baby
Remember what you told me
Shut up and put your money where your mouth is
That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas
Get up and shake the glitter off your clothes, now
That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas

Why are these lights so bright
Oh, did we get hitched last night, dressed up like Elvis,
Why am I wearing your class ring?
Don’t call your mother
‘Cause now we’re partners in crime

[CHORUS:]
Don’t be a baby
Remember what you told me
Shut up and put your money where your mouth is
That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas
Get up and shake the glitter off your clothes, now
That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas

You got me into this
Information overload, situation lost control
Send out an S.O.S.
And get some cash out
We’re gonna tear up the town

Don’t be a baby
Remember what you told me [x3]
Told me, you told me, you told me
Shut up and put your money where your mouth is
That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas
Get up and shake the glitter off your clothes, now
That’s what you get for waking up in Vegas
Shake the glitter, shake, shake, shake the glitter, c’mon!
Give me some cash out baby
Give me some cash out, honey

Thankfully, this song cannot be construed as part of my biography, but I can only imagine the number of people it describes in detail :P

This town is all about fun and excess which is one of the reasons I really love it 8)  It’s all out there on the table for the taking with the individual responsible for their actions :D  Want a yard of margaritas?  Here ya go!  Wanna bet $100 or $10,000,000 on a hand of blackjack?  There’s a casino that will take that wager.  I’ve seen a few of the $100 variety and sometimes over $1,000.  Dancing and dining ’til dawn your thing?  No problem!  Feel like a helicopter flight?  The limo will be right up for you.

Freedom, Liberty, and Opportunity.  Gotta love it

That’s what this song is about.  Of course, I have to mention consequences too.  But those come with Freedom and Liberty.

It also makes me think of a certain Buffett song – I am a Parrothead after all

Click on the pic and give it a listen – you might just like it.
