Very Tempting – A Whole CRATE of Mosin Nagant Rifles!!!

Talk about temptation

Just look at what I found whilst perusing the Impact Guns website

$2399.99 gets you 20 rifles in excellent condition with accessories in their original crate

$2399.99 gets you 20 rifles in excellent condition with accessories in their original crate

From Impact Guns:

This package includes a complete crate of 20 Russian M91/30 7.62X54R Hex Receiver’s Excellent+ Condition Mosin Nagant rifles.
Included in the package are matching bayonet and accessories packages.
The complete package comes in a wood military transport case.

Sadly, I don’t have $2400 or this very well might be in transit to my abode as I type :P

Kath, I know I don’t need them – at least not right this moment.  But it would be so nice to know that I could reach for them at any time should the need arise.  On top of that, they’re not a half bad investment

Oh well, at least I can dream, right  ?

White House and 2nd Amendment

I’ve seen this posted on several other blogs, but I felt I had to post it myself.

We’ve seen nothing particularly negative towards gun rights from the White House, at least yet.  We’ve even heard some good when someone openly carried a firearm near a town hall meeting and the White House basically said it was within the guy’s rights to do so.

That said, we need to keep on our toes and keep our eyes open.  You can bet that the current President is no fan of guns.  His history bears this out and I’ll leave it to you to Google that history for yourself.

What’s disturbing to other gun bloggers and to myself is the way the White House has worded its explanation of the Second Amendment on the official White House web page.  I’ve seen this part posted before, but what I haven’t seen is a comparison of that explanation with the other explanations on the same page.

The difference in wording is stunning for those who know how much it can mean

The difference in wording is stunning for those who know how much it can mean

Take a good close look at the differences.  You’ll notice that the other explanations (outlined in green) say that the Amendment in question prohibits or otherwise restricts the government.  The explanation for the Second Amendment (outlined in red) says that the Amendment GIVES the right to bear arms to the people.

But it goes much deeper than that.  Ignoring for the moment the absence of the right to keep arms, I find this explanation very troubling.  The problem is that as it has been pointed out for decades and actually for centuries now, the Rights in the Bill of Rights are not given by the Amendments to the People.  These Rights are natural rights which have been bestowed upon the People by their Creator and are recognized by the Amendments.  You see, if these rights are merely given by the Amendments, then they’ve been given by men and therefore can be taken by men.

The right to self defense is a basic human right in both my eyes and the eyes of many others.  This right is not only that of personal self defense against criminals, but it is also a defense against the government.  It defends all the other Rights.  To be left defenseless by the Government would be nothing short of a monstrous miscarriage of justice and a very significant step along the way to a possible decision by the People that the time to throw off their government as the Founders did would have arrived.

Some people might try to tell you that this is no big deal or that it’s a mistake of some sort.  You can be certain that this is no mistake.  The White House, like the rest of the Government, is full nearly to bursting with lawyers.  They crawl over every statement, every speech, and every word of every web page before it goes online to make sure it’s ready for prime time.  They knowingly approved this and you can be sure they knew exactly what it means.

Keep your powder dry, folks.

Picture(s) A Day – 31 October 2009

Today’s been a recovery day mostly.

About the only thing I did most of the day was to go to Borders for the third Harry Potter book before going to Sonic for some brunch.  After that it was back home for more rest and recovery.  I watched a movie and took a nap and that was about it.

But I did head out one other time…

31 October 2009 - It sure was a nice evening :)

31 October 2009 - It sure was a nice evening :)

I forgot my normal camera, so my LG Neon cellphone did camera duty this afternoon instead.  It’s not the greatest, but it’s sure better than nothing :D

My afternoon excursion took me to two places – Lee’s Discount Liquor and Taco Bell.

Taco Bell was of course chosen as a destination for the dinner part of the day, but I had a good reason for going to Lee’s as well.  I’m still mulling over the idea (if you’ll excuse the pun) of starting to make wine, beer, and mead and I wanted to actually try some mead to ensure that I would like the finished product of my labors.  I know I can find people to help drink any excess beer I produce (like that’s difficult :P ), but the mead might be a bit of an issue.  Very few people I’ve spoken to have had any idea what it is.  I figured if any place would have some mead for me to try, Lee’s would.

And indeed, Lee’s had two types of mead.  There was the regular mead and there was also blackberry mead.  I had a devil of a time deciding, so I just bought both as they really didn’t cost all that much :)

I’m happy to say that yes, I really do like it – a lot 8)  I didn’t quite know what to expect, but it didn’t surprise me that much.  I’ve heard it described as honey wine and that’s exactly how it tastes :)  It’s 11% alcohol by volume, so it would equate to 22 Proof if it were liquor.  So a bit stronger than beer but not overly strong at the same time.

The two meads I picked up were from Chaucer Winery in California.  They say they use three types of 100% raw honey – clover, alfalfa, and sage – and I think they might just know what they’re doing :)

The two types of liquor in the pictures are there for a reason – they’re a couple of my favorites.  No doubt most people have heard of that wonderful liquid known as Jeremiah Weed – 100 Proof bourbon liqueur is good stuff 8) !  Most people probably haven’t heard of Mount Gay rum though.  Mount Gay has been made in the same way in the same place since 1753.  Hmm… Let’s see, what happened in the Caribbean near Barbados around that time frame and a bit later…  Oh yeah – PIRATES  !!!  Yes, this is straight up, no fooling, no BS, straight cane pirate rum  !  I won’t try to kid you, it’s not anything like smooth sipping rum.  It’s more than a bit harsh and I can truly see why it was watered down into grog.  I still like it and I guess it’s partly for that history – the Caribbean connection to the Pirates of old 8)

The weather really was great today aside from the wind and I do wish I could have been out doing something which requires hearing protection, but that’s life :)  Anywho, I’m going to just kick back tonight and relax.  I might watch a movie or two and get some more sleep – I need my rest if I’m going to be ready for everything that’s slated to happen in November

Have a groovy weekend everyone

Picture(s) A Day – 30 October 2009

Yesterday was not exactly the greatest day in recent memory, but I’ve certainly had worse.

As you’ve probably read, I wasn’t feeling nearly 100% and I actually left work early and went to the doctor   The doc looked me over, decided that I didn’t have strep throat, but that it would still be a good idea to give me some antibiotics.  He was also rather surprised and pleased to see that I’ve lost a considerable amount of weight :D  As a result of my weight loss, it’s been decided that I need another sleep study.  Thankfully, I’ve got good insurance so a sleep study only costs me $15.  Without insurance, it would be $1,000.  I’m supposed to have a sleep study after ever 30 or so pounds of weight loss.  If things keep going the way they have been, I’ll likely be seeing them before too long again.

I figured that a good place to go for my prescription would be the Costco pharmacy I’d had the last one filled at.  The pictures above were taken on my way from Costco to go get some food for Ziva :)

Exotic Pets is very close to the North Las Vegas airport, so I’m used to seeing lots of aircraft in the area.  This helicopter wasn’t just there for the normal reasons.  There was a plane crash about a block away shortly before I got into the area.  The aircraft was a home-built plane called a Dragonfly and thankfully there were no major injuries.

Back at Exotic Pets, I managed to get some (I think) decent pictures :)  I made sure there were a few pics of some of the cute, furry, cuddly creatures for Kath along with some fun and interesting pictures of some of the cool reptiles as well :)

Anyway, I managed to get some sleep last night and today, so I’m doing somewhat better.  It still remains to be seen if I’ll be up to going shooting tomorrow.  I’ll probably feel good enough, but there may be wind to deal with – this is Las Vegas in the fall after all.

Have a great day everyone

Picture(s) A Day – 29 October 2009

I must apologize for the lack of picture posting – I’ve been just a bit under the weather and very tired because of it.  This takes time and I can’t do it at work, so there’s times when I might need to sleep rather than posting pics I’ve already taken

Thursday I only went one place before heading home from work.  I stopped by Wal-Mart in the hopes that they might have a specific type of shotgun ammo, but they didn’t so I settled again.  I picked up a box of 10 2.75″ slugs :)

And I managed to take a couple of halfway decent pictures as well 8)

What should I find in the parking lot at Wal Mart but a classic Chevy :D ?  This Impala looks like it either was a low rider at one time or it might be on the way to being one.  Personally, I’d put the car back to as close as I could get it to stock as I could if it were mine.

Driving home, I caught this pic of the last light of day over the mountains 8)  Yeah, I know – I’m a bit heavy on sunsets.  But I like ‘em :P

Have fun

Doctor’s Appointment – 1450 Hours

If I can at all avoid a doctor’s appointment, I will.  I know for a fact that there’s not a whole lot they can do to help with a common virus, so going in for that would pretty much be a waste of money.  If I’m in pain I’ll take a couple Tylenol and or a couple Ibuprofin.

Well, this sure feels like Strep.  Feverish, slightly dizzy, sore throat, swollen glands, etc.

So I got permission to call out while I’m on the clock and got a hold of my doctor’s office.  I have an appointment for 1450 hours, and permission to leave has been formally granted by my manager.

Now all I have to do after the appointment is go get food for Ziva (she just shed yesterday) and go buy some juice and such.

Wish me luck :)

I Think I’m Coming Down With Something…

I think I may well be sick.  No, Kath, this time I don’t mean mentally :P

Symptoms include feeling feverish, sore throat (mild right now), and generally feeling like something Kath’s cat dragged in.  So basically not good over all.

I am at work right now, but if I don’t feel any better by lunch, I may not return.  If the sore throat gets any worse, I think I’ll have to go to the doctor as I’m notoriously susceptible to Strep :(

Oh well, at least I’m still breathing and doing my part to produce CO2,  so I guess the situation could be much worse :)

I think I’ll go check into a possible opening with my doctor today…

You Just Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

From Fox News:

Motorized La-Z-Boy Chair Used by Man Convicted of Drunk Driving Is Up for Auction

Thursday, October 29, 2009
ASSOCIATED PRESS

DULUTH, Minn. — The infamous motorized La-Z-Boy lounge chair used by a man who was convicted of driving it drunk in northern Minnesota is going up for auction.

Dennis LeRoy Anderson pleaded guilty this month to driving while intoxicated in connection with the August 2008 incident in Proctor. Anderson told police he left a bar on his chair after drinking eight or nine beers.

Proctor police are putting the seized chair up for auction on eBay Thursday. Police Chief Walter Wobig says he’s starting the bidding at $500 Thursday and it will be up for five days.

By law, the proceeds have to go to the police, state and the prosecuting attorney.

Anderson’s family is also auctioning on eBay an autographed photo of Anderson riding the chair to help him with fees.

All I can say is that it’s a good thing it wasn’t a car.  Still, people, use a designated driver :)

Really, My Head Very Well Could Explode

I just had a caller state that he’d come back from vacation and found phone wires strung all over the place.  He further stated that his provider (not my employer) had told him to call AT&T.  I don’t work for AT&T.  He further stated that he could not find AT&T in the phone book, so he called my company which is neither AT&T nor his provider.  He knew this when he called, but he thought we would have the consumer number for AT&T.

When I told him I couldn’t give him the number because I didn’t have it either, he said that if he couldn’t find the number, he was going to call 911

Of course, I told him I’d advise against that and that I didn’t have the consumer number for AT&T, but that my best advice would be to call his provider back for the AT&T consumer number.

And these people are allowed drivers licenses and can VOTE !!!
